Glock G19 Extended Mag and Slide Release...

I bought G19 extended slide and mag releases today at the Costa Mesa show and ...it's amazing what difference that little nub on the extended slide release makes. Amazing also is that I changed both in less than 20 minutes (c'mon now, you Glockers don't call me "slow-poke"). I also bought the little armor's tool too, so along with other components, mag dis-assy is a "super snap". All told I spent a whopping $14 or so for my mods. Simply amazing....

That was one reason I never liked the Glocks, I couldn't work the slide release. That was until I used one with the extended controls, ported barrel, and tacticool light . I'll still get an HK next before a Glock though .
    Please, calm down.

I hate to be technical and all but I believe that it's referred to as a slide stop for the Glock. I never use it to release the slide, rather I rack the slide back to chamber another round. I've started using this method for my other pistols as well.

Gaston's design is awesome. Everyone can be a Glock armorer with a simple tool and 5 mins. .

you dont want to use it as a slide release. like blkA4alb said, its a slide stop. Ive been told by glock reps as well as operators Ive met from KSI that if you continue to use it in a slide release type manner, it will eventually wear a groove in on your slide and may cease to funtion after years of use. Just pull the slide back slightly to release. Thats what every single tactical class has taught me for every pistol. You dont lose your grip and have complete control of the firearm.

The factory piece is indeed a slide stop but the replacement piece is extended so that it can act as a slide release. Even the little baggie that the part comes in calls it a release (okay, it's abbreviated as "REL" but you get the idea). As for not using it as a slide release, that's ludicrous. Look at the plethora of pistols made in the last hundred years that had this design incorporated into their slide locks. They've had that extra nub added specifically for ease of dropping the slide with the thumb.

Exactly...if it wasn't meant to be used as a slide release it would be smooth w/no nub, like a CZ52...

On a CZ52 the original design has no thumb pad so you have to pull the slide back each time. I welded a pad to mine and it works great as a release.

Frankly, I'd be very surprised if anything can wear out a Glock slide. Probably the only thing that can would be a diamond tipped something or other. The Rockwell hardness of a Glock's slide is just slightly under that of a diamond.

I doubt that the slide release / slide lock on a Glock would ever wear out the slide, period.

I agree, besides even if you did wear out the slide. At that point it wouldn't be a big deal to get a new one.

Using the extended slide release will not wear out your glock. Though it is generally not the best way to release the slide it is useful. Best way would be to use a overhand grip on the slide, pull back and release. It's the fine motor skill (slide release) vrs the gross motor skill. The overhand method is easier under stress thus it is what is generally taught. It is also the same method you would use to clear most jams so you get a 2 for 1, so burn it into muscle memory.

I do a lot of competition pistol shooting and there is one instance where the ext slide release really helps. That is when a couse of fire calls for the gun to be unloaded on a table, but it does not specify if the slide has to be forward. So fast way to do it is grab the gun, seat a mag, thumb the slide release. Saves you almost a full second.

Guys a slide lock and slide release are two totally different parts.

Slide Release, holds slide back during operation.

                      vs

Slide Lock, used to field strip the gun.

The extended slide lock IMO, is a must have. It makes field stripping the gun a million times easier. If you have fat fingers or have arthritis, it is a must have.

Who referred to it as a slide lock?

I was just saying what Ive been told though I do agree its hard to wear out a glock.
I also dont think its the propper way to release the slide.

Ooops.. I should know better. Slide "stop". My instructor would be all over me for saying that. He trained us in the weak hand slide grab and release technique (like grabbing a handle bar), stressing that it was also good muscle memory for clearing jams.

At anyrate, it was a joy to install.

Not to put anyone down but the glock was made for the idiot shooter. Before you get all mad at me I'm one of the biggest glock fans there is. It really is a pistol design that changed the world of firearms forever. Its very easy to field strip, clean and work on. I can field strip mine in under 5 seconds and put it all back in under 5 seconds. I take the whole gun apart with nothing more then a small allen wrench I use as a punch. The finish is the toughest finish I have ever seen. I took a few stabs at my glock slide with a nail when I first bought it. Smashed the tip of the nail up and left small grey scuff marks on the slide that just wiped off with my thumb. I think it would take a lot long then a couple years for a little slide release to damage the slide. The release will go before the slide does.
