    Sig P226 question

So, basically I decided on getting a Sig P226 for my next duty weapon for armed security. I have a permit for .38, .357, and 9mm. I have already decided I want to get away from 9mm, so that leaves a .357. So, can I buy a .40 sig, and get a drop in barrel for .357SIG to carry for duty? Could I get a 9mm barrel and would that work also? I know how it works with the Glocks, but this will be my first sig. Thanks for the help...

Drop in factory .357 barrel is no problem, same mags will work too. You'd have to get a conversion barrel for 9mm though, i.e. Bar-Sto, not sure about mags in that case.

Does you clearance cover .357SIG or just .357 Magnum?
Then another horse PONY came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a huge sword. My kinda guy.

Im almost positive you can buy them already in .357SIG, and then if you want to change it to .40S&W you can buy the barrel for that. Not completely sure if you can buy it already in .357 though

The 226 comes in .357 SIG (3 variants on the CA approved list).

Yeah, you want to make sure .357 SIG is okay, as it is not the same as .357 Mag.

I played around with the .357 SIG for a short while and found the recoil sharper and muzzle blast and report noticeably more than the .40 in the same gun. Also the price of ammo was uber-expensive and also it's harder to find.

Fyi, there are some newer top tier SD loads for the 9mm that come very close to .357 SIG performance in ballistic gelatin tests, without the extra blast, recoil, and cost...

          The .357 SIG is NOT the same as a .357 Mag. 125 gr. It's more like a 9mm +p++(+)...

            9mm--35,000psi
            9mm+p--38,500psi
            40s&w--35,000psi
            sig357--40,000psi

            I recommend cor-bon 115g+p or 125g +p, it will do the job.

Yes, I own a P226ST in .40 S&W. .375sig Barrel and same mags work perfectly and I bought a Bar Sto 9mm drop in conversion barrel. I use the 9mm mags, but the .40/.357 mags works as well. It works perfectly and it's a tack driver.

The .40 and 357 Sig are interchangeable. As stated, you can also purchase a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel but because they are closer to match grade and tighter tolerance, they only recommend high quality/new factory ammo. The P229 .40/.357 Sig magazines will work reliably with 9mm but the dozen or more P226s mags I have do not. Also note that Bar-sto calls these semi-drop-in. From personal experince with 6 of their barrels they tend to drop in without alteration 75% of the time, but to get a perfect lockup and slide to frame fit, some material needs to be removed from the barrel locking lug.

357/40 cal both use the 20 lb recoil spring and if you decide to do the 9mm conversion you would want to order the 15 lb spring, stick with the factory sig springs

Yes, I can carry .357 Mag or .357SIG.. All BSIS cares about is the numbers on the gun, not the alphabet soup afterward. At least thats what I have been told..

You might check with BSIS first and not some guy.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

That is per the instructor of the firearms class I took. I am going to double check with him here soon enough.
