    1911 Mag discussion

So, I am getting a Sig Nitron Rail pretty soon. Next Friday pickup date. It comes with 2 Check-mate mags but I've been hearing mixed reviews on them. I already have 2 Wilson 47Ds, and 2 CMC Power Mags. Are there any good "cheap" 1911 mags? 47Ds aren't that much more than those Check-mates.

I have some Checkmates and they have worked great for me. I use the stainless, hybrid-lipped, CMF follower ones.

I also use Wilson Combat 47's and 47T's (10 rounders). I recently picked up some Wilson Combat ETM HDs since they appear to be the most realiable 8 round mags out there. They have been working flawlessly so far.

Both of those are good choices. Every 1911 is different though. You'll just need to see which mags (and ammo) it likes.

There's nothing wrong with Checkmates other than they are often sold out.

I also use Tripp Cobras in my 1911s, SIG included. They do seem to be very well made, and IMO they're a substantial improvement over the 47Ds.

For standard mags, I think Checkmate are the best - the 7 round, hybrid feed lip, dimpled follower version.

I like Cobra mags for 8 rounders.

CMP power mags for the win.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

Checkmates are great mags and are OEM for a lot of 1911 manufacturers including Colt, Springfield, Kimber (tac mag) Ruger, Dan Wesson etc. From what I've heard on the 1911 forum, they even manufacture the tubes for Tripp Reseaech and Chip McCormick. They've always been my go to mags and I've never had issues with them.

Buy used, then just replace with the follower and/or spring kit that you prefer.

I got two of the CM power mag+ 10 rounders from a vendor here and they have worked great so far in my RIA. I think it was around $65 shipped for both. I was worried that 10 wouldn't cycle right but it's been flawless and both work better than the factory magazine (8rd)

I was a devout follower of the 47D's but now I'm only buy Cobras.

47D seven rounders are the only magazines I use in all my 1911 .45's

Try out the magazines that will come with the firearm first. All 1911's are not alike when it comes to magazines. Some are pickier than others. If they work, no need to get anymore. Since you already have other good magazines, try them too. If they all work - good for you and your firearm, if not then you have great choices in magazines to choose from. Never get cheap magazines. Remember other peoples experiences may and will not necessarily be yours too, you have to try it out yourself. Experience is the key
