I'd start by looking for recent (e.g., last 6 months) worth of sales here in the classifieds. Then I'd do the same thing on Gunbroker. You'll have to add the "CA roster factor" into the GB prices, which should raise them a bit. Bottom line, the reality is the price is whatever someone is willing to pay. If there is someone out there looking for that exact gun and has deep pockets, none of the baselines matter.

There seems to be a bit of "cooling effect" on Colt revolvers in the classifieds here lately. 8" Python, stainless/blued 6", Cobra, drilled/tapped Anaconda all sitting unsold. That also might have to do with being a bit on the pricey end for what they are IMO. If it's priced right, it doesn't last long generally.

      Colt's are really high now

When the 'Walking Dead' gets cancelled, I suppose it will drop the insane demand.

Pretty certain that the diamondback was offered only in .38 and possibly .22 lr as well.

They are still pretty rare so finding one available will not be that easy.

My Diamondbacks may be my favorites, even more than my Pythons. I finally got a 6" 38 special last year and hit nirvana. It's not only the most beautiful thing out there, it also fits my hand perfectly. The weight and balance mix is spot on.
Prices are all over the place. I bought one two years ago for $1100 with a FTF transfer. That was a spectacular price for a 95%. The last SAR show in Phoenix, I paid $1500 for the rare 6" model (97%)and was happy at that price. I look for a long time (a year) and I negotiate. If you want to buy tomorrow thru gunbroker, expect to see listings of $2000 or more. There has not been a sale at that price range in a long time on GB.

if you're selling, your photo looks like a 97% condition or better.
The last sold ones on GB for $1275, $1425, $1550,

I have to say I like Diamondbacks too. Back in the 1980s I was in the 357 Magnum craze and overlooked the 38 Specials.

That is a very minty revolver. I am thinking $1000 easily and $1200 is doable. I wish I had the cash to make a deal on it. Good luck in whatever you want to do. For me it would be a keeper.

Most recent price I saw for one in the same condition as pictured was $1,700.00. The same store had others still in the box. The reason the one in the showcase wasn't "in box" is because when the fellow died, his widow and friend thought it would be easier to sell the about 100 Colts without the boxes .... so they tossed them. Ouch.

Looking at the "in progress" auctions on GB it seems DOM makes a significant difference on price, meaning earlier = more $$$. Judging by the grips the one pictured is probably a post 1974 or so version. I'd be a bit surprised if a nice Diamondback in CA can be had for under $1,500.00.

I was looking at GB and the prices vary quite a bit so I needed expert guidance from the Calguns community.

              thanks for all your input.

Hope so. Colt Snake prices for all models have risen to the level of Stupid. Far beyond what their availability warrants.

Correct. Smaller frame than the Python. I have a 2-1/2" Diamondback...nice gun, but I don't like how the hammer spur contacts the web of my hand when firing in DA mode.

3-4 (or more, as I prefer to consciously suppress this memory!) years ago I had the chance to pick up a Grizzly for $3,250 (at that time that was a bit of a premium for a Grizzly in CA). I was tapped out $ wise, so my best offer was $3,000. Looking back (hindsight is so brutal), that was SUCH a gem to pass up and let slip by for the extra $250. But, it was what it was and I just didn't have it (I'm sure I could have done something to get it, so totally my loss). I think I saw one here recently in the classified for $8,000 (totally unrealistic IMO, but it definitely would be snapped up quickly for anything around the $4,000-$4,500 mark quite quickly...maybe more).
