Ruger single six #141X ...... C & R ?

Someone wants to sell me this gun with a 4 diget serial number. I don't know if it's a C&R and if it is, can he just sell it to me or does it have to go through an FFL?

what bafles me is it doesn't have a flat loading gate and it has an alloy frame.

any info?

Ruger serial number history.

In CA, all handgun transactions must go through a FFL dealer.
C&R handguns are not extempt from this requirement, but they are exempt from the approved list.

that puts it at a 1954, but it has a round loading gate and an alloy frame..... granted, someone could have changed the frame. As I recall, they were readily avaliable aftermarket. I guess this is just an old genuine shooter that's seen a few days at the range and a few days on the work bench.
