    S&W 586 with range report

My younger son visited over the weekend and we got some range time with a few pistols and revolvers, including this S&W 586.

We took turns shooting it, 6 rounds for him and 6 rounds for me, single action, off hand at 25 yards with Remington 158gr RNL

...a fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place...

Very nice indeed. I had a 686. Along with other S&W revolvers I noted they are more accurate with the 158gr LSWC due to the barrel twist. Colt revolvers have a different twist and shoot the 158gr RNL better.

        Beautiful

That is a beautiful revolver. I know because I have one also, only mine has a 4" barrel. I just put a Dawson Fiber Optic front sight on it today as a matter of fact. I love the feel of this revolver in my hand. You and your son are magnificent shots my friend. Great job grouping at a target 25 yards away, and not even resting it on a sand bag, range bag, or anything else.

While I have a dozen or so S&W's, I never owned an L frame until about a year ago when I found this 586-1 at a local estate sale. Since then I have become a huge fan of these revolvers and I shoot this one far more than any of my others. This one just seems to have the perfect balance for me and it is my favorite hiking gun.

Beautiful revolver. Are you shooting a bit high? Nice group.

586/686 are wonderful handguns. I own two 686s and would scarf up a 586 "just because" if I ever saw one at the LGS.

Thanks, Che. i love the 148 gr WC ammo, but it isn't easy to find anymore.

                          Yep, i definitely prefer the pre-lock S&W's

Thanks, Carl. I've always thought the L frames were beautiful revolvers...similar to the Python in some ways.

The 6" barrel and crisp single action trigger pull really make for an accurate handgun

I have an old 586 and yeah I slightly over compensated, but I love it! It's the bottom right.
