    TiN barrel coating

Has anyone used these services or anyone like them? Any other recommendations? Does it mess up the accuracy of the barrel?

Smith Outfitters is an FFL/SOT dealer in Steubenville, Ohio: custom firearms, Cerakote, AR builds, stippling, machining, transfers and duty gear.

Want to get this done to my pistol barrels. Thanks, CG.
The liberal see's the glass as half full and tries to take more.
The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.

TiN coating will not get into the bore of the barrel, so effecting accuracy should not be an issue. Prob be good on all wear surfaces.

The way that TiN and other similar Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coatings are applied is that the coated material is sputtered off of a doped surface. This is sort of like spraying water against a driveway and using the "bounce" to mist your car. That's why it won't get "into" the barrel.

Here is a good video of the process:
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

Other than the cool looks of a gold Ti coated barrel, why is this really a benefit? Will this really improve ANYTHING over the standard finishes on barrels from the major handgun makers (glock, S&W, Beretta)?

I purchased a used SA 1911 9mm from a Calgunner who had had the barrel TiN coated. Don't love the look, but the coating seems to do it's job. Not sure I would pay extra to have it.

It supposedly reduces wear of bare metal. I do not know if it is better than Tenifer or Nitrited parts.

My opinion is don't get your parts TiN coated. The sear and/or hammer on a single action (or (AR) may benefit from the process.

I used TiGun for a Moss 500 project. Got the complete bolt done. turn around was about 13 days maybe less.

                      That's not a bad turn-around time really.

The place you recommended looks legit and is 18 mins from my place of work. I will be doing a drop off during my lunch.
