Hello all, does anyone here have any experience with a Mechtech carbine conversion for a XD 9?

I see their ad in magazines and it states no modifications necessary and no FFL required.

Doesn't your xd become an assault rifle because it has a pistol grip unless you have a mag lock?

That actually looks pretty good. I wouldn't mind one on my XD. But, apparently, you have to have a dedicated lower for that conversion unit - you can not go back to pistol according to CA law. (per previous discussions about MechTeck Glock kits).

Yes. And although "once a rifle always a rifle" no longer applies out of state in CA, so I'm told by those smarter than me, it still may.

I suppose for one to be "maybe CA legal" in 2018 you'll have to Kydex wrap the pistol's frame and then attach, making it a "featureless Mech Tech". Or register your Glock pistol as an "assault rifle"?
