    .357 Snub nose

Hey guys and gals I was wondering who made a decent .357 snub nose? Are they also legal in California? Thanks for your time.

    Heavy frame: S&W 686 Plus 2.5"
    Medium: S&W 640 Pro
    Light: Ruger LCR

Yes those can all be acquired in California.

        ^^ SP101 also a good midsize choice.

Should mention that out of those, the 686 Plus is the obvious choice if weight and size don't matter, as its weight will allow for easier firing of the Magnum and it can accommodate 7 rounds. Something light like the LCR could be downright painful to shoot Magnums with.

Take your time, and find a used S&W model 19, with a 2 1/2 inch barrel. It is the perfect combination of size and weight for the .357 round.

model 19 is the way to go. i have one with a 2 1/2 inch barrel and it soaks up all magnum loads, i also have a 2 inch titanium 7 shot magnum and it hurts to shoot full loads

Tons of used snubbie .357's out there. People buy them then dump them after they experience the muzzle blast. I caught a heckuva deal that way. Personally, I favor the Rugers for their ruggedness and price.

I have a 686 snubnose. It's a medium frame. You can get one with a 6 or 7 round cylinder. I love my 686+ which is a 7 rounder. You can also find a 627 which has a larger frame and an 8 round cylinder.

you haven't mentioned what application(s) or purpose(s) a short barrel revolver will play in your life. sharing this information would be helpful to others in making suggestions/recommendations.

I have the smith 60-9 and it's a nice gun.
I have the ruger sp101 and it's a good gun but gives me trouble personally from a double action stand point. I've just never got along with it real well for some reason.
I had a taurus 65 2.5 incher and that was a gun I regret parting with.

                        ...

I also have a 60-9. It is very accurate. I really like mine.

I don't shoot full power 357 out of this gun most of the time. I usually shoot handloads that are between 38+P and 357 Mag in power.

In the picture below, the 60-9 has wood grips. I replaced them with the shorter rubber grips like what is on the gun next to it. It shoots better with the longer grips, but it seemed useless to have a snuby gun with a long grip. I could just use my 4" 357 if I wanted a longer grip.

Note: The California Roster doesn't list a 60-9, but it does list the 60-14 which is an update of the 60-x series. The 60 series 357 comes with either a 2" or 3" barrel.

I love my S&W M-649 Humback. It's ugly but has so much character.
Plus it has some weight so shooting full powered .357 mag rounds isn't bad at all..

But do consider... 38spl/357Mag do very poorly out of short barrels. Essentially a .357 mag will be comparable to a 9mm out of a 2" barrel. Except the .357 will have more recoil and much more blast/flash.
