Bersa .380 dangerous??

I bought a firestorm .380 and took it to the range for the first time today. I noticed when the slide is locked back and I pop in a mag, the slide racks itself with out me pulling down the slide release.

Is this common with this gun? Do I have a defect?

It happens from time to time.
It is certainly not dangerous as long as you are always following the safety rules.

In intense practice, I'd say that maybe 20% of the time when I slap a mag into my Shield it will drop the slide. Not sure if it's the impact from my hand, or if my right thumb is riding the slide release.

I've had it happen once or twice on my G26, but it's rare.

When I use to own the firestorm I had a tendency to bump thumb up against the slide release soon as I slapped magazine in after i made a habit of adjusting my thumb away it stopped. As far it riding in its own when putting a mag in it only happened twice when I was training myself to not bump the slide release.

Happens sometimes, for some people, with some guns.

A lot of people like this unintended 'feature'. As long as you're handling the gun safely, it's not a problem.

My Bersa Thunder always does that, and I think it's cool, it will help in tactical situation.

I think the HK P7 drops the slide when you depress the squeeze cocker.

As long as its not a surprise, i dont see it as a problem. Youre ALWAYS going to drop the slide on a mag change, anyway, right?

My M&P9 does that occasionally when I use a little too much force to seat a mag. Like other have stated, just be sure finger is out of the trigger guard and muzzle is pointing down range.

I know I shooter who overlooked the same situation with another semi auto pistol. All was great until...

The slide started to close before the magazine was fully inserted. But don't worry. It only happens occasionally.

"Well, yah see, kinda, this is never happened.."

Bersa. Everyone just loves Bersa. Fine.

The Walthers, that Bersa copied, those Walther slides don't unexspetally close when you insert the magazine; not by design, not by occasionally. not sometimes. And if the Walther is out of spec then the owner needs to get it fixed straight away. As for Bersa...ehh.

I've got 300 rounds and through my Firestorm. I cannot replicate the situation described.

it is normal for the Bersa to auto release the slide upon inserting a full mag. This makes the gun ready to fire upon insertion.

Pistol slide close on magazine insertion is an old IPSC gunsmith trick that pre-dates the USPSA organization.

On all semi pistols, when the side locks open by the pressure of the last round, many times the slide stop latch will catch, but it barely catches the slide stop notch or magazine follower. And any kind of bump or nudge to the pistol thereafter inadvertently sends the slide home. Been there...did you get your tee-shirt?

During an inspection, the user gives the slide stop an extra bump to make sure it will keep the slide open. This usually keeps everybody happy.

One less movement for sure.
I never had an issue with missing a reload, so when the slide closed after the magazine was inserted you didn't see me complain. It wasn't until a few years later when my gunsmith told me this one less movement reloading trick was not going to happen on the second build. The 2nd build was the go to pistol when my range pistol needed to be independently inspected before the pistol or me was to be allowed on the range.

M1 Garand Rifle...
On some M1s the bolt will go forward when the clip is seated. One less movement fantastic.

(Don't panic. M1s are clip feed. It is an internal non removable magazine thing)

And sometimes with a M1 seated clip, the bolt needs to be bumped in order to close. The armorers I know say that either way the rifle is fine. This is a M1, not a Bersa.

It does indeed, and was designed to do so.

Many other handguns will drop the slide when you insert a mag on a locked back slide, especially with some force. While not a design feature and they aren't technically suppose to do that, its not dangerous, unless you are.
