    Colt gold cup series 80

I have a Colt gold cup series 80 1911. Recently the front sight snapped off somehow when I was shooting at the range. Instead of replacing the front sight only I want to upgrade both sights to something a little better. What can you guys recommend me that will work at night, being that this is my only handgun I want to be able to see the sights if I were to ever need to use it during the night.
    Thanks in advance!

If you want them to work at night then you need something that glows.

Night sights from any of the big names, Trijicon, Meprolight, etc.

Novaks and Heines are the ones that come immediately to my mind. I like a bright green front sight and dull yellow rear sights or bright green front sight with a plain black rear.

Maybe a tritium fiber optic front, and leave the rear alone.

Try Millett, they make sights specifically for the Gold Cup.

Your choices for a rear sight that fits the unique GC cut will be very limited.
As noted, Millet makes sights for GC's but I don't know if they make night sights for the GC.

I would recommend you get the front dovetailed to a Novak front sight cut. That way, your choice of a front sight will be unlimited. Whatever you decide, don't get the Millet double crimp style front sight installed. (You will be stuck with it forever.)

Well I'm not sure if I want to cut my gold cup so it sounds like my choices are limited.

Should I have a gunsmith remove the rest of the old sight and install the new one, or is it something I can do myself?

If I were you I'd keep the Gold Cup stock. You can install a new standard Gold Cup front sight and send to these guys and have them install tritium inserts in the sights:

Some guys on 1911forum.com have used them and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Your other choice is to buy another 1911 but w/ night sights.

I've done it but it's a PITA. You'll need a front sight staking tool - you can buy one from Brownells. If you send the slide out to Tooltech they may do it for you.

That sounds like the best option. I'll buy the front sight and send it to these guys then eather install it myself or take it to a local gunsmith.

I can't afford to buy one plus I'm not 21 for another 15 months, but my dad is going to buy a stainless 1911 so that will have to do till I can get one.

Buy a different gun. The costs of sites and installation are going to be less than a used glock but not that much less.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.
