    Muzzle-break on a .480 Ruger Alaskan?

Is possible to add a muzzle-break to a .480 Ruger Alaskan with a 2 1/2" barrel? I don't mean drill the 2 1/2" barrel, I mean add a break, which would add another inch or two to the barrel. If yes, do you know who does this work? I've searched the net, and most breaks are for rifles. Most of the breaks I've seen for revolvers look like they're drilled into the end of the barrel.

    It would involve drilling.

Download a 400g cast to 1000fps and you'll achieve controllability and still be able to anchor a grizzly.

Adding a brake does not add to the barrel it only adds a brake. Brakes are threaded on so your barrel will be cut back and threads added. Bad move IMO look for a longer barrel or sell the gun and buy something else.

A muzzle brake on a Ruger 454 Casull Alaskan?! YIKES!!! You better not forget to wear earplugs and muffs at the same time.

Anything is possible. My question is why?
I have owned a S&W 460V for a while now. I wish it didn't have the fireball, muzzle blast, concussion enhancer.
One of these days it's going back to S&W for a new barrel w/o the comp.

Ok, well I guess a brake is off the table. How about Magnaport, they claim not to increase noise. This is pre-purchase research. As soon as retirement comes the wife and I are off camping ( a lot) in places that include grizzlys. I thought about a downloaded .480 ruger. I also thought about going up a notch to a .475 Linebaugh to get as much punch as possible, so downloading .480 doesn't make much sense in relation to that.

I'm looking at this in the same light as a survival knife. It's said that a 2" neck knife that you have with you is better than a 10" blade you left home because it was too heavy to carry. I don't want a .480 with a 2 1/2" barrel, but it would fit in a jacket pocket for a quick walk across camp at 2 am. It would be more likely to go with me than a gun I had to put on a holster for. I wouldn't hunt with it, for that the new 6 1/2" Bisley would be good.

Linebaugh himself said that the .475 is most effective for hunting from 1000 to 1200fps. That right there is the 480.

Not much on this planet can deflect a 400g bullet at 1000fps. Don't overthink it.

Stick with the 400g bullet, that's where it shines.

Seriously, you will be thrilled with a longer barrel, Magna port will add noise there is nothing magic out there for your short barrel. That short barrel loses power, range and it can hamper your sighting/aiming you really need more than point and shoot.

I had a 5 1/2" Super Blackhawk Mag Na Ported about 25-30 years ago.
I sold all my 44mags when I bought my 460, except the Super Blackhawk. It's a real shooter especially in 44Special.
The porting does work as advertised. But then again it's not a 460.
The heavy hitters, like we've been discussing here, are better served with a heavy frame handgun with a barrel length that can utilize its power.

I had a Redhawk in 44 Magnaported and never shot it again.
The recoil reduction is good but the concussion is increased to a large degree, this is much worse than recoil.

I am sold on the .480. However, I want something easier to stick in a jacket pocket than a 6 1/2" barrel. Remember, I'm not hunting with this. I have a 30/06 for that. I have time, maybe I'll wait and see if Ruger produces a 4 1/2" .480. The problem is that's likely to be a single action, which would be fine with me. On the other hand, my wife isn't an experienced shooter. I don't want her to have to think about pulling the hammer back in a crisis situation. I could get a 4" .45 long colt Ruger double action for her, and a single action .480 for me. In that case, she has to think if she has to grab my gun if it's closest at hand.
