    Taurus PT 1911

So, 1911 heads, I ask you: The Taurus PT 1911. Hot? Not? Cheap imitation? Fair copy at decent price? Good for a backup weapon? Meat tenderizer? Doorstop?

    Opine!

It's tough to offer opinions since it's not CA approved.

As of right now, I don't think I've ever seen a PT1911 posted here on Calguns yet..?

I've got a model 85 revolver that I'm happy with, but I've read a lot of comments lately from people on Calguns sending their Taurus' back for warranty work, particularly semi-autos. Can't say it hasn't had an effect on the way I see them.

          IMO...

(Armscor) Rock Island Armory 1911 > Taurus 1911.

+1 on the Rock! I have the tactical version and love it. No issues so far. Still in the break in period with a little over 100 rounds. Flawless so far.

              Why not legal?

Just a question, why wouldn't the 1911PT be legal in CA? because of the 10+ round clip?

I have been thinking of buying a Taurus 1911, as they are somewhat inexpensive, yet still seem to be pretty reputable...

I have a PT1911ALR and have to say it is an excellent gun for it's price. Looks awesome, shoots great, and a lifetime warranty too. But, with all its bells and whistles its just a nice $600 gun...not a high end or custom shop 1911.

They are not on the CA approved handgun list I really like the PT911 however haven't had the chance to shoot or buy one. They do seem like a good deal for what you get.

That's what I'm saying. And at the price, it'd be a real affordable way to learn to tinker and futz with a 1911 before monkeying with your expensive ones, dig? Seems weird it's not approved for CA. How the hell did that fall through the cracks?

Pssst. Hey, Taurus. Want to move a boatload of these guns? Get 'em on the list here in the People's Republic of California and get yourselves a wheelbarrow for the cash you'll be making.

Does it have a loaded chamber indicator and mag disconnect? If not they can't get it on the list.

Don't mind the politically correct gun terminology folks. Everyone knew exactly what you meant.

As elenius asked, they don't have a mag disconnect, and may not have a loaded chamber indicator (my Milspec has a tiny slot in the slide that they call a loaded chamber indicater - not good for much).

They'll never be on The List. You'd have to NERF one.

As nobody seems to have mentioned it yet, not only does a handgun have to have all the require features, the manufacturer also has to submit samples of the exact model of firearm (3?) a bunch of money and a bundle of ammo (1800 rounds total?) so that the Cal safety boys can have a range day -- sorry, I mean give it thorough drop testing. If they have it in blue and green or other variations, then they have to submit it all variations if they want them all listed..
