CZ-P01 Front Sight Installation

Good evening All,
I have the smaller CZ P01 . Today I received a light tube front site that I was hoping would be an easy install. All the youtube videos say you can simply hit out the pin with a small punch tool. I have not been able to do so as it seems the left hole for the pin is much smaller than the right pin. I have seen some videos of people drilling out the left hole (which I dont want to do).

Has anyone performed this mod? I have some pictures coming.

Really appreciate any help, as the next step is to bring it to a gunsmith.

Im wondering if I am missing something and I can simply hit out this pin. Or will I need to drill out the left side.

Like I said, all youtube videos show you can simply hit it out from right side to left with a punch tool. However many forums say you need to drill it out from the left side.

I don't recall which direction I pushed the pin but it wasn't that difficult. FYI I don't use a hammer on my punch tools, jut a flat vise with the punch tool aligned inside. Much more precise and controlled push vs. Hammering.

I did one and it was in there really really hard. I got freaked out. I think I ruined the pin in the process too which from my research is not uncommon.

By "light tube front site", do you mean the Dawson fiber optic front sight? If so, I replaced the factory front sight on my CZ 75B and CZ SP-01 with the Dawson red fiber optic front sight. First was purchased from CZCustom.com and the 2nd purchased from CajunGunWork.com.

From my research, youtube/forums/etc.., the indication was the roll pins were installed from left to right. Inspecting the front sight roll pins on both of my CZ’s, I can see the tip of the roll pin on left had some missing paint compared to right along with what appeared to be flat spots. This seem to indicate it was installed from left to right. So, removed the factory front sight roll pin with the hammer and punch from right to left of the gun. In doing so, the roll pin pushed out on the left side of the gun. It took some force with small hammer to get the roll pin out on both of my CZ's. Just take care not to damage or bent the roll pin in the process. A replacement front sight roll pin was a few bucks from either CZCustom / CajunGunWorks and cheaper than tax / shipping.

I had to sand down the bottom of the new fiber optic front sight using 800 - 1000 grit sand paper to fit the new sight on the gun. During the sanding, take care not to change the profile. Make sure bottom of sight is in full contact with sand paper, sand it down, test fit and repeat until the entire sight goes in on the gun.

The fiber optic front sight from CZCustom.com did not have the channel for roll pin pre-drilled. So, install the new sight, drill from left to right through the roll pin hole. If drill from right to left of pin hole, sight might move forward as drill spin in clockwise direction. When trying to drill the channel, I broke the drill bit and it got stuck in the gun. Used the punch and hammer from left to push out the broken drill bit out of the right side. Ended up using a three sided file to create the roll pin channel. In hind sight, I think the trick to prevent the bit from breaking is to start the drill before making contact.

The 2nd fiber optic front sight I bought from CajunGunWorks.com had pre-drilled roll pin channel. So, no drilling required. Just file it down to fit and install the roll pin from left to right.

You’re right, it’s not difficult. Just take your time. May want to tape up both sides of the slide with painter tape to prevent accident/oops. Good luck…

I got a hiviz front night, however I do think it is similar. It does have a channel pre drilled out.

Referring to the left side is when holding the gun correct, not when looking at the front of the barrel. When I said left it is in reference when holding the gun.

A cautionary note: Do NOT run the gun with that roll pin removed. It not only holds the front sight in place, it also holds the barrel bushing.
