    Hi Power question

I've had a hankering to buy a Hi Power. I've shot a few very old ones a while ago and really like them. Currently not looking for a c&r (but definitely later on) and I like the idea of a brand new one vs a used off roster with unknown round count. So my question is, how do the brand new blue ones compare to older? I have only seen the mk111 for sale and I am not partial to finish or grips. A Lgs has a couple off roster from a gentlemans collection, not certain of the years. One has fixed rear sight the other adjustable and both are $1000.00 there is also a best up Ingles. I believe that a local range has a new one for rent that I plan in checking out.
    Input appreciated.
    Cheers

Since you have one available to rent, you might want to go and shoot it before spending your money. The Hi-Power has an, um... unique trigger pull for a single-action semi-auto due to the fire control geometry and magazine disconnect. You may or may not like it. If you're right handed, the newer versions have no real advantage for you; being left handed, I wanted (and got) a Hi-Power with an ambi safety.

The first thing I did was remove the magazine disconnect. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't bother. It didn't improve the trigger much and the mags still don't drop free.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Thanks. As I said I have shot a few old ones, and the triggers were a bit tough, but not horrendous pull as I have heard some describe. Maybe they were extremely broken in or they were better then?
On yours that you removed disconnect and it did not improve, was it new or older?

Removing the magazine disconnect made a HUGE difference for me with my FM HP..

One issue with older models, combat sights. Older eyes and such. Newer HPs have better larger sights. Not counting the target models. Best fitting pistol I own.

            BHPs are great handguns...

Don't be afraid of an older version. $1000 is about right...

I think the new blue HP's are 1100.00 or so... Still on the roster and can be ordered... T series are made in the 60's and C series in the 70's (approx)... First letter in serial number.. My C series are great shooters and fit my medium hands perfectly.... A great choice,,, good luck... Cheers..

Thanks, I wasn't sure about the price because this store is typically over priced by about double on guns that I am currently sure of values. Might have to go back and take a better look.

Mine is a newer version that came equipped with ambi safety levers. I believe it to be a Mk III.

Never compared w/ older models, but I can tell you the bluing on the new ones is excellent. Picked mine up at Grabagun, they normally have both the fixed

Can confirm with the above. I picked up the same one last year (except with fixed sights) and the fit and finish is the best I have ever seen on a pistol. The bluing is better than any other blued handgun I own ( and I have a few vintage colt and smith revolvers) period.

There is nothing wrong with the new ones at all. The cast frame doesn't bother me- the machining is GREAT and the mag disconnect has been a part of the hi-power since the 1930's.

I bought a new one back 2000 or 2001. It was a beauty. The trigger was lousy. I shot it three or four times at the range. I just didn't want to fool with it at the time. So, I sold it and moved on. Good luck with it.

I've owned 4 HPs over the years and the only one with a cave man trigger was an Argentine FM. Even with the disconnect removed it had what felt like a 15 lb pull.

The other three (a 60s vintage and two MkIIIs) had civilized triggers and even more so with the disconnect removed. My current MkIII has as good a pull as any 1911. My HP is my favorite full bore semi auto pistol, even more than my 1911s which is saying a heck of a lot. I like the HP so much I gifted one of them to my son who is now a HP fan.

Treat yourself and get a Mk III.
