I would never and have never removed a bushing from a 1911 like that.

I generally do not use a tool.

A polymer bushing wrench was included with a 1911 I bought, I use that on occasion.

ive used a polymer punch to push the recoil spring plug. Preferably a punch that allows a good grip. The bushing is swung into place as the punch is removed sideways.

I only have one 1911, but are some more difficult than others?
I've never needed a tool for this.

Tight 1911s may need a tool to remove the bushing. Think Les Baer tight.

My polymer bushing wrench has never failed me when I've called upon it.

This is the way I disassemble a 1911. Easy peezy. Works for the tightest 1911s - and keeps them tight.

Never once in 40+ years of using / maintaining 1911's have I ever used or desired such a tool.

Thanks. More than 1 way to skin a cat eh. I am just having a hard time with Baer with just my thumb. I'll give this method a try.

If the gun is steel, I don't think aluminum can scratch it. It might scratch the COATING on the gun though, like if it had cerekote on it.

Like others have stated, you don't even need that tool. Why spend $60 for something you can usually do with your fingers.

Some are tighter than others. I have one that requires a polymer wrench to turn the bushing, but I never needed anything more.
