    Clear Cerakote a Kimber Eclipse?

A friend of mine has a sweeet looking kimber eclipse and was asking my thoughts on the 1911 as a carry gun (ignoring weight and size).

At first look the thing screams safe queen, both the black coating and the brushed stainless surfaces would scratch too easily, the metal would rust from long term exposure to sweat and moisture, but then I thought about the magic of Cerakote.

What's Calguns' opinion? Would the look of the gun be diminished? Would it still get damaged in the day to day of carrying?

Example so this thread isn't worthless:

If you like the gun carry it but know it will be scratched. Cerakote only does so much. My guns that are Cerakoted have lost the coating pretty quickly in certain areas like on my AR15 the charging handle rubbed the frame and within the first day I had scratches already.

Just my take on things. Why not carry a gun you don't mind scratching like a RIA or a gun with a better coating like SA Armorkote etc... Kimber sells the Desert Warrior which has a great coating on it. Almost impossible to scratch.

There are finishes look good or even better with some honest wear..... that Kimber would not be one of them.

It's a tool. Carry it. And when it gets scratched up, cerakote it or PVD it any color he wants.

Cerakote has more color options but not as durable. Pvd is more wear resistant but doesn't have the color choices that cerakote does.

A full size 1911 for carry is awesome if you can hide it properly. A carry gun will get dinged up and it will wear out where it rubs hard on the holster. If your friend wants rust protection why not consider ion bond, but you'll lose that 2 tone pretty finish.

Gun would have to be sandblasted for cerakote to stick. You would loose the finish anyway if you tried to clear it. Cerakote clear is made to stick to cerakote not bare metal. When the finish gets totally clapped out... Be proud that you have carried a gun that long and practiced with it. Then post pics so we can check it out! No finish looks better than that of a gun with honest wear!

Agreed, there's not a finish on earth that doesn't look better with good honest wear on it.

Good gun with a nice finish. That said, they're a dime a dozen. Use it! Give it a little character.
