I am wondering if anyone can tell me if a PPQ .45 has a larger grip than a PPQ 9mm? I am in the market for a PPQ 9mm but have been offered a PPQ .45. I have short fingers and I'm concerned the grip will be too large. Also I'm not sure if a polymer pistol in .45 is something that will work for me. I have heard it said that .45 and polymer are less manageable than 9mm, this seems logical to me. I don't own any polymers so I'm looking for some opinions. I have shot Glocks and did not care for them. So I'm trying to buy once.

PPQ .45 grip size?

The PPQ 45 grip is larger in diameter (front to back) and height compared to the 9 mm or 40 Cal version.
I have a PPQ 45 and have medium sized hands, regular length fingers and have no problems with the PPQ 45. I find the PPQ 45 ACP slightly easier to shoot than my 1911's accurately...I was very surprised about this.
Keep in mind I have standard (mid length) triggers and standard (not thin) grips on my 1911's.
Now that I have the PPQ 45 the Walther p99 grip feel a little too small.
The 45 ACP in the PPQ is very manageable recoil wise. The 45 ACP has more of a push rearward recoil impulse compared to the higher pressure 9 MM slight snap. The 40 caliber is a lot more snappy with a definite muzzle flip compared to the 9 MM or 45 ACP
Walther P99/PPQ has a relatively high bore axis that may make felt recoil seem worse than some lower bore axis pistols.
But...you are in CA, so 10 rounds of 45 ACP or 10 rounds of 9 MM for us non-privileged peasants. Cannot go wrong with either though. -
1911's are my preferred pistol. I shoot them the best and they feel great in my hand. The fact that you find the PPQ more acuate peeks my curiosity. If that's true for you maybe it would be that way for me. Thanks for the response now I'm very interested in the .45 version. I really wish I could handle one. This state really does suck. The PPQ 45 grip is larger in diameter (front to back) and height compared to the 9 mm or 40 Cal version.

Doesn't the PPQ 45 have different size grip replacement like the PPQ 9mm? If yes, I am sure the small grips will fit perfectly for your smaller hands. I have never held a PPQ 45 but love the way my PPQ M1 9mm feels and shoots.Comment

The PPQ 9 MM and 40 Cal come with three backstraps small medium and large.
PPQ 45 comes with standard (medium) and a larger one, only the two.
Imagine a P99/PPQ 9 MM grips with just a little length added below the palm swell bump...and a little wider.
A strange thing, I used to have a SW99 45 ACP (P99 clone but in 45 ACP instead of 9 MM/40 Cal) and the grips rear palm swell really bothered me. I sold it for this reason. The Walther PPQ in 45 does not bother me. I would be curious to know if they are really different dimensions or if my memory is poor.Comment

After playing with the PPQ 45 at shot show range day it is definitely on my list of things to acquire.
I liked the grip size. I wear 2xl gloves and found the ergonomics to be awesome. My only complaint was that they weren't offering it with a type 1 frame. Apparently that was a common enough complaint that the engineer I talked to said he would work on trying to get one approved.
The recoil was very manageable. I wouldn't say the accuracy was better than a 1911, but to be fair, the 1911s I shot that day were from Republic Forge (arguably nicer than WC in my opinion).
The PPQ 45 is definitely on my short list. I just have to decide whether I want another rifle or a handgun before the end of the year.I'm a big old, bourbon-soaked cigar-huffing ***, as God in his infinite wisdom meant me to be. - Charlie Sheen.Comment

I have read reviews that say the PPQ .45ACP grip does not feel that much larger than the 9mm. It does come with two backstraps. As far as accuracy/shootability, Hickok45 says it might be too easy to be accurate. Here is a chart that might help you.
I would love to get my hands on one of these.Comment

Do you think the small backstrap from the 9mm would fit on the .45? I imagine not. I guess after thinking about it my hands are probably meduim size. I usually wear medium to large gloves. It's just that I recently bought a SW 629 classic and can't shoot it in DA due to the long DA pull. The PPQ 9 MM and 40 Cal come with three backstraps small medium and large.

I'm not sure what my LOP is. Any idea on how to determine it? Does LOP take "total circumference of the grip" into account?Last edited by Infidelxx; 09-09-2016, 7:02 PM.Comment

The 9 mm back straps wil not fit properly on 45 acp PPQ
I also find it difficult to shoot a large frame revolver in DA without shifting my grip
Added information...
I broke out the calipers and took some rough measurements of the P99 40 Cal
1911 commander and PPQ 45 ACP. Keep in mind the P99 is an AS model with a DA/SA trigger with the medium backstrap.
Web of hand to trigger face PPQ (with flapper depressed)= 2.8 inches
1911 (medium length trigger)= 2.7 inches
P99 DA "safe action" position= 2.98 inches
SA position= 2.68 inches
Grip width PPQ 45= 1.31 inches
1911 (standard wood grips)= 1.38 inches
P99 9 MM= 1.15 inches.
I do not have a PPQ to measure other than the 45 ACP. But based on pics I would suspect a PPQ 9 MM/40 Cal to be a little wider than the P99.
Side by side the PPQ looks quite a bit bigger than the 1911 commander and the P99 but the grip does not feel like it is that much bigger. The trigger is about the same location 1911 compared to PPQ 45 ACP.Last edited by jimmythebrain; 09-09-2016, 9:23 PM.Comment
