If you can find a S&W CS9 Chiefs Special it's a fine single stack sub-compact.

For everyone suggesting the 938, although it is a great gun, where in the hell are you going to find one for $300-$800

          The Rami fits the bill.

Nah, Kahr's founder was the son of a religious cult leader. He has tried to distance himself from his father.

Though I still do not like their magazine followers for their 9mm pistols.

CZ rami..... or better just go for CZ P01/ PCR... not subcompact but if you can carry Rami you will carry P01 with no issue imho.

We have KAHRs in every caliber and love them all. Never had any feeding issues. Wife rocks them all but the 45. She shoots better with them then most people do with a 6 inch barrel. The Sub-compacts (PM) are a bit on the small side for my big hands so it took me a bit of training to shoot them well.

Not being rhetorical , I'd love something with a lower recoil...
.380 may have more recoil, esp if it's blowback operated and has less slide material. Probably better off just sticking with 9mm if you don't want to add another caliber.

CZ Rami 9mm seems like the way you should go - best of both worlds

                    P239 in 9mm
Borderline sub compact in terms of size
Extremely reliable, soft shooter, accurate and on roster
New will be above 800 if it has night sights but used you can find one for under 800

                      Well, 380ACP is technically a 9mm round: 9x17mm

If you step up to a compact (as weight is not a concern), I would +1 the CZ PCR; a quarter pound lighter than its metal counterpart, but 10+1 is nice to have and it feels very good in the hand. Definitely not for most pockets though. I did have to order some night sights from CZ custom for it and the guy I bought it from put some VZ grips on it.

Asked and answered this question myself. Got the rami and haven't regretted the choice. Yes it's a bit thicker by .25 or so, but I get the CA max of 10.

LOL. Charging meth head? Better have a rifle in .223 or better already aimed in.

Just bought a Sig P238 and did a lot of research on the .380 before buying it. It's a bare minimum for defensive purposes. You're trading power for concealment. I feel it's adequate or I wouldn't have bought it, but I wouldn't only have the option of .380.

If it's your only carry gun, the CZ Rami. Looks like a sweet little gun. Get the .380 later. Though the Rami will probably be tough to find used. Looks to be about $600 new. Turner's has it on sale through today for $600.

Would CZ P-01 be considered sub-compact? If so, would be a decent choice for a 9mm. As far as best, idk, that depends on user preferences.
