Hangun requirements???

Back in December I bought my first gun, a Remington 870 Shotgun. I've taken it to the range a bunch of times, and while there, I've also had a chance to rent some handguns. You see where this is going....

What I would like to know, are there any requirements to owning a handgun in Socal? Do I need a license? A special class? Or, can I just go to a gunshop and buy one?

I'm thinking a 9mm for now, maybe a glock 19, which I've shot a bunch of times now, and feel pretty comfortable with. Although, I am still trying out different handguns.

All you need to do is get an HSC card, (the test is way easier than getting your license from the DMV) and not be a convicted felon. You must also be able to prove residence and your drivers license will not work. You need a vehicle registration or a utility bill.

I went out to the Costa Mesa Gunshow yesterday, and there was a store doing HSC testing. I paid my $25, got a 100% on the test, so now I have my card.

Good start. As mentioned, you also need proof of CA residency. A utility bill or vehicle registration with your name and your residential address will do.

BLC pretty much has covered the major stuff. To be able to legally purchase a handgun, you need the HSC (or an exemption), be 21 or older, not be prohibited from owning a firearm (all felonies and some misdemeanors, including domestic violence), and be able to prove residency in California - Driver's License/ID and another form of proof such as a utility bill.

It's not hard, but it can be a little confusing or intimidating at first.
