Springfield Custom TGO 1 External eval

This is going to be a little long winded, so bear with me.

I snagged this gun and into the ten day wait it went. I read everything I could get my hands on in regards to it and FINALLY picked it up today! This gun is a remarkable example of what a talented crew of gunsmiths can accomplish for sure. I will go into it all in this post. BUT, for those of you who read my post , KNOW I will find something wrong with just about any gun, regardelss of price. Not the case here. So, let's dive into it.

    Finish

This is one of the earlier guns with the ROBAR treatment, NP3 frame and internals and Roguard finish on the slide. Minus the few wear marks the slide has held up well for a gun that was built in 2004, a few holster wear marks, brass kisses, etc but no hard use wear. The frame looks untouched and this extends to the magwell, NP3 is good stuff. The gun was designed for competition so I will not get into to a review of a defensive weapon, BUT the finishes are slick, as they should be on a gun designed for competition. Easy to clean, durable, good looking, evenly applied/ deposited. No gripes here.

It is a nice looking blaster for sure.

    Fit...

OK I have a Baer Super Tac, A Professional, and a Guncrafter for base line comparisons.
The TGO is tighter than all afformentioned forearms, EVEN tighter than the Baer. The TGO has ZERO, even when dry, ZERO frame to slide play, up or down, front or rear, It is smoother than all but the guncrafter (which is the smoothest gun I have ever felt). The slide and frame run like they are on Ball bearings, the barrel snicks out of battery and pops back in, If I press on the hood there is ZERO movement and I can not get it to rock side to side at all..... This is the tightest gun I have ever had, and I have had a few.

Now, this is not to say the others are loose, but this one is that tight.

The bushing fit is perfect, I can almost move it by hand but not quite, Once it is rotated I can remove it from the slide by hand, it fits very snug to the barrel and can not be rocked when on the barrel alone. This Tgo 1 has the Nowlin Barrel.

Trigger fit is as you would expect, it is snug with the slightest up down play to allow for carbon and grit while not locking up the trigger in it's track.

There is not much to say about the beavertail safety, it is fit perfectly to the tangs and the frame (grip portion)

One thing that really surprised me is the ejector is actually hand fit to the slide (pic attached) I mean it is super tight in there, none of my other semi customs have been as meticulously fit.

The MSH is perfectly blended and the front and back strap are perfectly checkered at 20LPI, not too sharp like a TRP, just enough to get a solid purchase on the pistol, not enough to chew your monkey mitts up in the process.

If you actuate the AMBI safety it is very positive, but light, I did say this gun was built for competition....it is a little light for a defensive gun but perfect for a competition rig.

The TGO has two sets of thin grips and I did not think I would like them, but upon firing, I forgot they were not standard size grips. I MAY add standard VZs later but these work great for now.

NOW on to my biggie...the trigger. This pistol has a remarkable trigger. 3.5lbs over 10 pulls on my gauge...deviation was an ounce either way. Perfect. I liken it to the trigger I did on my Les Baer, which is the best trigger I have ever felt. I outdid myself on that one...The TGO is on Par with that. I can not figure out what one is better...that is saying something.

Springfield really did a nice job on this TGO 1, it feeds VERY smooth, and sharp edges are lightly dehorned with nothing left out. I can see why they command a 4k + price tag.

All in all I can not find fault with this pistol, and for those of you who know me...you know that is saying a lot.

I would honestly say, if I had to quantify it...this pistol is on par at least with a Wilson Classic Supergrade.

Internal eval and range report to follow in the coming week or two....

Targets posted are 5rds at 10yds...

Is that rust on the cocking serrations? Any MIM parts in there?

The TGO is about $4K from Gunbroker. I doubt that it has MIM parts in it.

No mim on the older nowlin bbl guns. Three mim parts in tge newer ones....no rust anywhere. Maybe lint or oil.
