    1911 Fullrail Part Interchangeability?

    Hey Guys,
Ive recently been wanting to buy a 1911 fullsize. I had a RIA Tactical and sold it. I Loved it and regretted selling it. But now i have opportunity to buy a fullrail RIA.
However im a guy that likes to have a gun that can interchange parts and parts availability.

Do full rail 1911s have interchangeable parts with a basic 1911? Obviously the slide is different. Just trying to decide to go with fullrail so i can add a light or the basic tactical model.
I already have a ria tactical on layaway and got a great deal. The fullrail is basically $250 more in the end. I cant afford both and dont want both.

Im leaning towards the basic RIA Tactical with no rail. Because it has the classic look.

Im only going to own two 1911s. 1 fullsize RIA and a Colt Commander 1991.
What do you guys think about the fullsize rail version other than it looks really cool.

I suggest paying for the rail if you plan to have your 1911 run with a rail mounted laser or flashlight and have it under your night stand. Otherwise it's hard to justify the extra price if you won't use it.

No difference in parts between a railed or non-railed 1911, if both guns are the same caliber. If the barrel lengths are the same, then the slides should be interchangeable too if the specs aren't too tight. And that goes towards any 1911 parts where a part might fit one frame just fine but will be too tight for another and would require grinding to fit.

1911's are not plug and play guns and do require some fitting.

Sorry if I'm missing something, but how can a fullsize slide go onto a full rail frame? the frame on a standard 1911 is shorter, the frame on full rail is longer?
Am I missing something. Sorry still confused.

Let's see if I can take a shot at explaining this. Regardless of non rail or railed gov't frame aka full-size, a gov't slide will work on either frame. The extra length of the dustcover - rail area is of no importance. Look closely at the picture, do you see where the frame rails are the same length on both frames? That's what matters, not the dustcover length.

It's when you try interchanging gov't and commander slides and frames that bring up issues.

OHHH OK! Thankyou for explaining that. Seriously I had no idea. I'm new to 1911s. Never owned one until recently. In pics it looks as if wouldn't fit!
Thanks again. Well that just changed my mind. LOL
