Grips for gp100

I might actually be getting a gp100 this weekend, finally. Im curious to what grips you guys use or where do you buy them from. Did a quick Google search and found some on midway. Also came across some eagle grips. Didnt think they were going to run that much. $65-$100. I like the original grips but I want some wood ones for the old school look. Some dark cherry ones maybe. Any input on where to look for great quality wood grips?

P.S. It's the 4" stainless non match one.

I took of the originals & put on Houges. Not pretty, but fit my hand better.

Get the match champion, a little more money but you get a lot of 'perks' including some nice grips.

I was looking at the cherry wood hogue grips. Or are you talking about the rubber ones?

Maybe down the road. I will be hopefully picking up the standard model second hand. But at a good price.

I second the reccommendation for the Match Champion. If that is not an option, the MC grips can be purchased from Ruger and they are superb.

I like Altamont grips. They make the older GP100 style grip with the wood and rubber combo, so you get a good look and some rubber for comfort.

But for full disclosure, I have a GP100 4" and still have the original rubber grip on it. I keep thinking about getting a nice looking grip, but the stock rubber one just fits my hand so nicely....

One tip for you, dry fire your new GP100 a few hundred times in double action and it will really smooth out the trigger.

I prefer the factory rubber grips when shooting matches that requires drawing from a hip holster. For hunting I like the rubber Hogue Monogrip like on my Super Redhawk.

Everyone here has some good suggestions, I bought a 4" (or 4.2" for those who want to correct me) brand new back in 2013 and it came with the rubber Hogue monogrip. I will have to say that it is comfortable to shoot with, and gives revolver a bit more of an aggressive look, but I ended up lucking out and found a set of the older style grips at my LGS for like $3.00, since I feel revolvers just look better with a set of wood grips, or at least wood inserts. The grips themselves work great since being mostly rubber and the fact that the GP100's are built like tanks there really a lot to worry about for recoil. Here's the GP when I got it.



If you want full wood grips I would go Hogue, otherwise I think Altamont makes some good grips for wood inserts, personally I would pass on the inserts from Altamont as you can buy the grip separate and get custom made inserts from Chigsgrips.com. They can be a bit pricey and takes a few days for him to ship since he's usually backed up, but I really like this Box Elderburl I got from him.

I also second RocketRider on the dry firing. Mine had a very nice single action, and the double action wasn't as bad as I expected, but you definitely notice it being kind of rough. After a few range trips it got as nice as some of my old K frame S&Ws.

I am not a fan of the Match Champion because it does not have the easy-switch system for changing the front sights, and I also prefer a full lug barrel to a half lug.

A standard GP100 can be tuned to have a wonderful trigger. As mine does.

My GP100 -- the inserts are Chigs.

Ive gone thru the altamont, hogue but always came back to the stock grips. Put the money to a nice trigger job. Much more worth it imho. I recently sold my slick as glass 4" and have a bone stock 6" which i might ream to a mid powered 357 maximum.
