I recently acquired the coveted PI9134LP, Springfield 9mm 1911 and the Kimber Stainless Target in 9mm. The thing is that I wanted the Springfield and added my name to a waiting list. I eventually lost patience and bought the Kimber, only to be called the next day to pick up the Springfield...WTH. Now I'm stuck with both but only want to keep one. Please help me choose...Thanks Guys and Gals...

If I were in the same situation, I will highly likely keep the Springfield. The company offers one of the best warranties in the industry. The trigger is probably not as light/good as the Kimber, but it's nothing a trigger job cannot fix. Springfield also has a custom shop that can do that and much more. The Springfield 1911 is also a "Series 70" gun, so it is more "old school," but that is just a preference of mine.

Like you, I was impatient and bought the Kimber after waiting 4 months for one....Then I saw the Springfield in stock shortly after I bought the Kimber. Now I have 7 days left until pick up...
I have shot 250 failure free rounds from the Kimber and love mostly everything about it. A couple of observations:
My particular Kimber is somewhat picky with Mags. Metalform (10 rounders), Mecgar (9 rounders) and the stock Kimber mag work and drop free. Others may not (Brownells and possibly Wilson Combats per their website).
My front sight fell off after 250th round fired through it. I wanted to upgrade anyway. I like the rear sights because it is blacked out, not busy and adjustable, but having an all black front sight makes target acquisition under low light somewhat difficult. I don't recall if Springfield has the same, so it could be a wash.
I do want to echo trigger945 - Springfield's warranty is second to none. That alone may be the tipping point for me if I had to pick just one.Remember I was against registration.Comment

Springfield, Kimber is not the firearm it once was"A free people ought to be armed" George Washington, 1790

I have never owned a kimber so I can't comment on quality. I have owned a 9mm springer and was flawlessComment

I would keep the Springfield. . .and use the proceeds from the Kimber sale to send it out to the custom shop for a makeover.Comment

One company stands by their product forever, and the other company stands by their product for one year if you have the bill of sale and can prove it was a factory defect. That would be more than enough info to help me make my decision.Comment
