    Which XD Trigger?

I plan on buying a XD for my first Handgun when i turn 21 this may.

One of the usual complaints i see about the handgun is the trigger pull and/or reset.

So as soon as i get it im going to send it out for upgrades.

I dont know which trigger to get.

    Competition: 3.5-4 lbs.

    or

    Combat: 4.5-5 lbs.

my only concern is as to whether the competition trigger would make it unsafe to carry or does it not matter. if not then i will get it.

    thanks for your help.

People will argue differently, but I think it is a monumentally bad decision to have a competition-level trigger in a carry/defense gun. A lot of armchair Rambos insist that uber-light triggers are fine because they would never, ever unintentionally touch their trigger when somebody is potentially trying to kill them. I am not personally Mr. Super-SEAL Delta SWAT Ranger, so I don't know exactly what might happen in a gunfight. So I like having a little breathing room in my trigger pull.

Your best compromise might be to get one of the after-market trigger bars that eliminate take-up and reset, but don't go with the competition sear/springs. That will leave you a trigger with the original factory weight to it, but reduces the travel that so many people complain about.

Alternatively would be to drop a competition sear/spring into it, but leave the factory trigger bar. Result is a smoother, slightly lighter trigger that still offers some travel to help offset the potential for an accidental discharge. This is the way I have my XD45 Tactical set up.
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

Personally I would shoot it first before you go upgrading stuff.

i was going to get the reduced overtravel adjustment and the non-factory trigger.

i wanted a custom XD from the factory but the SA rep. said i could not due to the CA roster. therefore i will buy roster compliant & then customize.

I agree, try it stock...you just might like it. But you will never know when you change it out right.

The stock trigger really sucked for me when I first got it. But after the first 100 rounds things started to smooth out. Trigger is tolerable now.

Get your hands on some modded xd's if you can...obviously. If I were trying to make a tough decision like this I would post something to the extent of offering up a 6 or 12 pack of someone's favorite beverage to let me fondle their weapon and/or shoot at a local range. I live in SJ so I cant really help but I bet there are a few calgunners who might take you up on an offer like that.

are there any other suggestions for trigger work besides Springer Precision?
