I figure it would have the same amount of recoil, get the 5" if you want to help with that, its heavier. And the muzzle rise reduction from the ports may not be noticable, they are pretty tiny holes.

I think the hot gases pushing up might freak her out more. If my memory serves the v10 was not very popular and tends be in less demand than the normal models.

I have one. The muzzle flip is noticeably less, but the ports don't help recoil much. It's a hoot to shoot with +P rounds and Priv Partizan 115gr rounds. Priv, for some odd reason, generates a huge muzzle flash.

Open your mouth slightly when you fire +P rounds from this gun. It'll rattle your teeth.

I think mass of the gun and weaker loads will help with recoil. My P226 has much less felt recoil compared to my XD port.

If she is recoil shy, you should try an SP01. The front end is a bit heavy and tends to tame the flip pretty well.

Springfield did a great job with the porting in the .40 model can't say it would be as effective in 9mm which discharges less gas. Having shot USPSA open guns, that is what it feels like when I shot the XD40 V10. Tames the recoil and the gun was a blast to shoot. My criticism with porting is the flash coming out of the ports for guns that possible will be used for SD in low light. The V porting and multiple openings really minimizes that. No more flash than a standard barrel IMO.
I've been looking for one by the way in .40 if anyone in NorCal is looking to sell.

The XD9 Service (4") has next to no recoil to begin with.

My wife is an absolute recoil wimp and she shoots my XD9 great.
