Bill Jordan drew from a conventional duty holster on a signal and fired his .357 Smith in 0.27 seconds....AND hit his target with a conventional bullet.

As a Border Patrol Agent he also was in certified gunfights with the same rig and gun. It wasn't a freakin' game to him...

Ed McGivern was also incredibly fast and unbelievably accurate, and used bullets, not shot.

So was Annie Oakley....

I think the quickdraw cowboy action shooters use a generous anount of corncob (to fill the large case volume of blackpowder chamberings) and a wax or corncob "bullet"

lots of IPSC shooters can draw and shoot on target with a full powered load, in about 1 second.

he's shooting blanks. He even says it during his talking. The burning gun powder and debris coming out of the blank is what pops the balloon.

Don't confuse apples with oranges, folks.

Bob Munden is for real. He does shooting exhibitions in front of live audiences. However, he only does certain things.

The single action speed contest he does is fired with blanks. Everyone knows that (okay, everyone who looks into it). I have no idea how long every day he practices, but I'm sure it is substantial. He makes a living at exhibition shooting and a shooting school.

Mr. Munden also shoot real ammunition at various targets in his show. He cuts cards in half, mounted horizontally and balloons with short barreled guns at rather long distances.

However, to compare what he does with the late Bill Jordan's talents is ridiculous. It isn't the same thing at all. For the record, the late Jelly Brice was a much faster - and deadlier - shootist than Agent Jordan. The late Jim Cirillo was a hard nosed shootist who worked the stakeout squad for the New York City Police Department. (Don't be misled, Mr. Cirillo was a delightful, cheerful and friendly man - coming from NYC and all!) However, Mr. Cirillo didn't work from a holster much.

Someone mentioned Ed McGivern. Mr. McGivern was a very fast shooter, but didnt' work from a holster particularly, and was not a lawman. Jerry Miculek is a fast and accurate shooter, but uses special holsters and guns. I have some doubts if he shoots 'duty' loads in his revolvers, either. (I'm sure the ones he shoots in IPSC competition meet the power factor, but for the speed exhibitions, I have doubts.)

Not all of this is the same stuff. They don't play by the same rules, they don't have the same objectives and they use different equipment.

By way of example, I had an uncle who was a heck of a driver. He made trips from Kansas to Oklahoma (maybe Texas? - I was a little kid) and back with the trunk loaded with - ahem - beverages. He was a stunning and resourceful driver. I'm not sure I want him driving the local school bus. Different skill sets.
