    Sig 938 help

My stepdad recently got his CCW and is carrying a Sig 938 SAS.
This is a stainless steel slide gun.
The help I am needing is that his skin/skin oils is like rust cancer to firearms and he sweats a good bit.
He was able to put pitting on stainless steel.
I'm thinking the gun either needs to be ceracoated or hard chromed.

What is the most durable firearms finish?
And yes I've told him he needs to wipe it down daily with an oily rag.

The M&P Shield has a nitrided rail and the rest is plastic, not rust. Some use them around water with good results.

That might work but he loves his 938.

layer of clothing in between the gun and body may help. I would contact Sig warranty before spending on a new coating.

I called Sig and they were extremely pleasant and helpful.

Have a RMA number, going to send the gun out tomorrow or Wednesday I'm thinking.

Just out of curiosity, how long did he wear it for it to start pitting?

Old school wife beater undershirt between gun and skin really helps.

Some people sweat acid. I've seen it on guitars. That's why I suggest those folks select a non-rusting gun.

Ask Sig to install the new MSH and sear spring while they have it.

I would think that, it you:

                            1. Stripped off the slide.
                            2. Cleaned it with mineral spirits.
                            3. Ran a dowel down the Bbl port to hold it.
                            4. Heated it to ~325 deg. (Range/oven/coals).
                            5. And then dusted it with a Silicone spray. . .?

You would never have a problem with it again.

New holster. One that puts leather in between him and the pistol.
