    Barrel question

This little dot has never increased in size, shape of any form. It's a little marking that looks like from the forge process. What is this. Or called? There is nothing on the inside of barrel. 4140 forged chromium. Any guess ? It smooth if you run a paper clip over it. No sign of damage in the circle.

Could be a Rockwell hardness test mark.

      That is what I thought.

When they test steel for hardness, they press a diamond into the steel to see how deep it penetrates. It leaves a round mark - usually in an inconspicuous place.
