I have to admit that 1911 is only platform I can shoot straight. It is trigger control, I think. I want a gun for pig hunting and 1911 is probably the best solution to shoot in 50 yards or more, in my case. I wanted Wilson Combat but is not on the roster. I have Les Baer Ultimate Master which I love to death. Kind of weird, after I have bought Les Baer, I have lost interest to buy other guns. It is so good. But I need 10mm for hunt. Not much choices here in California. Any experiences with Kimber 10mm? Bad or good, waste of money, forget it if you have Les Baer, any comments to help me make decision I will greatly appreciate.

I had a Kimber Stainless Target II in 10mm, so not the Eclipse which is a little more refined I think. I had feed issues when I first got it with some of my hottest loads using 180gr jacketed FP. I finally traced the issue to the Kimber magazine and the slide stop profile inside. The gun would feed fine with my 10mm Tripps, but gag with the Kimber. The Kimber mag was allowing the bullet ogives to cock over enough to cause a lock back. I took a little off the inside of the bevel on the slide lock and the gun then would work with all my magazines.
Otherwise it was a pretty nice gun. I prefer target style sights, so that part made it better for me over the Eclipse.
Another option might be to call Wilson amd Les and see what they would charge to do a retrofit. You buy one of their on roster guns, send it back and get a 10mm in return. It won't be cheap as the retrofit will mean cutting for the ramp, etc., but would definitely be an upgrade to the Kimber.
Also, if it is just a trigger control issues, you can make a G20 trigger pretty sweet with a polish and ghost kit, or even better yet one of those top notch drop in triggers, which all in would be a fraction of any of the above options.Last edited by Bill Steele; 07-22-2016, 4:14 AM.When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones." -
Thanks Bill for giving some insights into Kimber guns. I don't have such deep understanding of gun smithing issues like you do. Therefore to protect myself from any potential problems I was planning to order gun through the local gun smith services store. It can order guns for customers, too. I had bought through them two high quality hunting rifles recently, so they know my face there and I assume they would help me, if necessary. Since, I live in 1911 world addicts, I have no clue what you talking about regarding the trigger for Glock G20 "polish and ghost kit." What is it? Any info about this could be helpful. Retrofit gun to another caliber, I would rather not take a risk. I am not sure of end results but I might be wrong here.Comment

On the polish and Ghost Kit, it is just a simple polish of the parts that rub on each other in the trigger group (lots of youtube on this, usually called the $.25 trigger job on Glocks). I prefer the Ghost Rocket kit, which includes a connector for a lighter trigger pull weight and over travel limit, springs to further lighten the trigger weight, etc. You might find for hunting a 6" hunting barrel in a G20 might give you more than other options.
I think for a newcomer to Glock, getting one of the better drop in triggers might be a better way to go. For hunting, mods are fine IMO.

I got a good deal on a lone wolf 6" barrel and slide combo off the classified is here. I picked up a G21 SF recently to install it in. I have a Kimber Eclipse Custom II chambered in 10mm, and another one chambered in 45 acp. I guess the fact that I bought two of them would indicate that I like the pistol very much. Both are very straight shooters. Accurate as you would expect from a 1911 pistol. Both come with night sights instead of the target sights so if you wanted to carry it you would be set. I also have a Glock 20 and it shoots good to, but I had to pay extra for the night sights, and a good Charlie Vanek trigger kit. The Kimber came good to go, but was more expensive.Comment

Is there a specific reason you want to hunt hogs with a pistol over a long gun? A Springfield M1A variant would probably be my choice.Comment

Thanks for the comments guys. 6" barrel with Charlie Vanek trigger kit sounds tempting. I have to make more research on that. But I am 1911 fanatic so I might end up with both of them, Glock and Kimber, like Seaweed02. To answer your question BlueFalconer, I like to hunt by stalking pigs around dense brushes or dense shrub patches but it requires a lot of walking and every carried pound counts at the end of the day in sometimes hilly, difficult terrain. I have Sako 85 rifle. Couple times I wished I had a gun on hand for too close to comfort interactions. I will start in October, again. It is too hot now and pig are moving only at night. Wild pigs are smart and I found them harder to hunt now or maybe the number are dwindling due to drought. Funny thing that in general, I have to hunt only by myself, I have more luck to see animal if I am alone. Hunting with friends usually means zero pig sightings.Comment
