Quick question, not sure of the legality of it. I took my new shield 9mm out to the range and noticed with my sights, I can see the loaded chamber indicator poking into the picture. So I went online if people just sell the slides for the gun. Before I purchase, is changing the slide make my gun "illegal" in California? I would assume if I were to sell it, I would have to put the original slide back on.

I've heard that (depending on the gun) somebody out there makes a replacement LCI that fill the spot, but is flush with the top of the slide. Haven't seen one though. Just heard rumors.Sorry, not sorry.

Can you file the LCI down to clear the line of sight?
(Remove from the gun, file, reinstall)Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

You can legally remove both the LCI and mag disconnect (if you have one) The dealer is the only one required to have it in place at time of sale. Still by removing it should a AD occur and injury or death results you could be implicated in a lawsuit. You removed a safety device. California is all about safety, just ask Lt Gov Gavin Newscum. Lawyers have car payments too. It's your call, I did it and still sleep well at night. But I'm old and could die from being hit by a giant meteor from space. Good luck OPComment

Perfectly legal and no, you don't have to return it to original configuration.
For example, you could buy any on-roster pistol. Once it becomes yours it is no longer under the roster criteria. No used pistols are under the roster criteria. This is how you can still buy off-roster guns. They have to be someone's and could be brand new, but not sold to you by the store.
Once the handgun is yours, you can do whatever it is you want to do with it except making it into an AW (think full auto for non AR pistols).
You can replace slides, barrels, internal components, basically anything and everything, except the frame of course. When you sell it, without the LCI you can probably get more money.
Another example. If I bought a 1911 with a barrel that has a little cutout in the hood (1911 LCI), shot the crap out of thst barrel (or bulged it) and then got a new barrel (without the LCI) there is absolutely no issue.
But if you are set on keeping the LCI intact, then yes, buy a different slide. Or just take out the LCI. and if you are bothered by the hole, make a filler piece to go in place of LCI.
personally I would take the cheapest and easiest option of just modifying/deactivating the LCI.Hobbies: bla, bla, bla... Bought a Mosin Nagant... Guns, Guns, Guns...Comment

You can tune how high the LCI rises out of the slide, by modifying the small nub that touches the round.Comment
