    Revolver bug

My most fun gun to shoot is the S&W 929 and I'm wondering why it does not get much attention compared to 1911-glocks-cz ando so on..

I think people got enamored with higher magazine capacity. Now that variable is getting closer and people are starting to take a look at revolvers. 11 rounds of 9mm vs 8 rounds of .357? Tough choice. I agree that for concealed carry comfort the slab-sided semi-auto beats a cylinder poking you in the gut.

I started with revolvers 50 years ago, migrated to semi-autos for a while, and now am taking my wheelguns to the range more and more.

I contracted the bug as well, finally got to take out a S&W 19-3 that I picked up a month or so ago. Loving it, shoots like a dream. Thanks again to Big Jon for a great deal.

I don't have as much experience as you sir but I too tend to bring my revolver on every outing. There's an enjoyment in loading the cylinder by hand and choosing SA/DA to shoot. It's like driving a fully manual vehicle.
I had a stick shift Honda Accord DX for 14 years and itsee more fun driving than my 2013 automatic vehicle.

My most fired wheel gun is my 617(.22)but I well say I don't enjoy them as much as my semi-autos. But they are cool and it's fun to mix it up sometimes.

                    I love me revolvers

You aren't constrained by the feed ramp like semi-autos. You could draw up a mold shaped like a french tickler and fire it from a revolver. Probably not gonna get that to happen in dad's 1911

I think the reason depends on the type of shooting, and perhaps a sense of empowerment. Among the women I have worked with, they are very happy when they find out they can shoot a 1911 better than their male friends or significant others. This is after they have moved on from the snub revolvers so many are given rather than select.

The felt recoil on newer semi auto's are less than felt recoil from similarly sized and loaded revolvers. Having said that revolvers have more grip options, but more frequently than not, not for women's hands.

As for comfort when carrying the small auto's have less felt recoil and higher capacity than most revolvers (Ruger 9mm exception) as dual recoil springs become popular.

Also revolvers are frequently less customization. Sights and cylinder release are often set.

                      Those might be some reasons.

I thought you meant Back Up Gun, and I was going to chime in about the Ruger LCR!

I feel like I may be a part of that category of non-wheel gun owners until recently.

To me, revolvers look like a beautiful, classic showcase type pistol. If I were to buy one, it'd sit in a wooden case with glass panel to show it off. At the same time, I'm off buying tactical pistols like an FN's, Sig's, 1911's and so forth.

Last month I was at my LGS and decided to handle a few wheel guns. I pushed aside the "showcase" type and decided on a modern, S&W 340 chambered in .357/38spl.

Since busting it out of jail, I find myself taking my S&W with me as much as I take my 1911 to shoot. It's just a different kind of fun and definitely addicting!

My only problem is, I don't know what other wheelguns I'll enjoy shooting

158gr .357 rounds do give my hand a pounding, so I always make sure to bring some 38 special with me when I go shoot. It's funny making the guys a couple of lanes over flinch when I shoot .357 though.

I have a new love for heavy metal guns. I recently bought a Ruger Match Champion and a S&W 929. I took them both out together and shot them a few weeks ago. Double action with the MC I shot pretty darn good. DA with the 929 and I was astonished....I was shooting the center out of the targets. Maybe the longer sight radius and smoother action I don't know but I don't think I've ever shot better with a revolver single action let alone double action.
Both of these revolvers are keepers!!

If you like shooting that little snubbie with mag loads, you will LOVE a full size S&W or Ruger with a 4" or 6" barrel.

Look at 686 or GP100. There is a reason these are the most popular wheelguns on the market right now.

FTR, my 26 year-old GP100 is NOT for sale :-).
