    92-FS Question?

Last night I was putting in the D spring and metal trigger kit in my Beretta 92FS Inox.

After successful function checks I realized the hammer has a partial lock point (not fully cocked).

What is this hammer position used for? I've only been shooting for a few years now and this was my first handgun. (Not my last though )

    Thanks !

In the manual, page 7 Section D The Complete Safety System

D1 Automatic Firing Pin Safety: When the trigger is not pulled completely back, a blocking device secures the firing pin and prevents it from moving forward, even if the weapon should fall from a height and strike the ground muzzle down.

    Also on page 9

Note: Some models are equipped with hammer half cock position. It is not recommended to carry the hammer half-cocked. This device is intended as an accidental discharge preventive hammer drop catch.

As Mr. B said, it's a half cock position. It's meant to arrest the hammer and prevent it from striking the firing pin should the hammer slip from your thumb while cocking. Kind of redundant since the Beretta, and most other hammer fired pistols, have a firing pin block. Handgun manufacturers try to make their guns as idiot and lawyer proof as possible.

        Thanks for the great information.

I did not get a paper owner's manual with the pistol. (Turners) I thought it was an online version only, which I will go back and look at again.

        Again, thanks
