1911 Armorer tools
Just curious if there are any tools necessary or recommended needed for a 1911. Just looking for what may be necessary for basic cleaning.

For basic cleaning, IMO...Not really. About the only tool I use is a bushing wrench for my Les Baer. My other 1911's don't need one to remove/ replace the bushing. If you are going to break it down farther than a field strip, then a good set of punches, a armorers hammer and a nylon block are good to have. Its really a pretty simple design that does not require much in the way of special tools. Im sure someone else will chime in with more ideas. Good luck. -
Nothing more than a good cleaning kit and a gun screwdriver set.
Possibly a pin punch for the mainspring housing, but that doesn't need to

No tools required for basic field strip. Use the base of your magazine to turn the bushing. That's all you need. Of course you will need cleaning supplies. Detail strip is a different story. You will need either screwdriver or allen wrenches for your grips and mag release. JMB made the original so you don't actually need any tools to detail strip. Not even a screwdriver.Comment

Unless you have a supertight bushing, you don't even need a bushing wrench. You need 1 punch for mainspring housing and also to use to push in the firing pin to remove the firing pin stop. You might also want to have a rubber band handy to hold the grip safety in place when removing the mainspring housing. This will prevent the sear spring from getting out of position. A small screwdriver to remove the grips and magazine catch or a small allen wrench (Kimbers use allen screws on their mag catch).Comment
