Depends on what you're looking for.

Fit and finish goes to the kimber. But the springfield has a steel frame and arguably better built.

In my experience both are reliable and fantastic handguns.f

I personally prefer the Kimber. I've owned both. But I found the Kimber to be more to my liking.

My only concern with the kimber is the barrel is in the white. But I wind up cerakoting most of my guns anyway.

Having a Kimber 1911 .45 I was expecting to buy the Kimber 1911 9mm Loaded. But when I went and compared the two I found the Springfield to feel better in my hand... I went with the Springfield...

That was when I was into 1911 pistols... now I prefer striker fire pistols so I have already sold my Kimber 1911 .45 and am selling my Springfield 1911 9mm Loaded now...

we have several SA 9mm 1911 Loaded Target. In a total of 80K rounds between the two competition guns we've had one failure (exclusive of reloaded-related FTF, etc.). So, the guns have been both reliable and accurate. Stock triggers are a bit variable; none were bad. My wife's HD gun is bone stock and has a very nice trigger, probably 5+ lbs. Our competition guns have been worked by SACS and have 3 lb. triggers.

My wife's Kimber HD Pro Carry II is a nice looking gun, but in the original 38 Super configuration it would not go into battery - had to go back to Kimber. It's being converted to 9mm.

To the OP, I've wanted a 9mm 1911 for a while now. The only thing that has kept me from buying one is that the Springfield feels unrefined to me. Sharp edges versus nicely "dehorned." Just something I personally feel like I should be getting when paying ~$1,000 for a pistol.

The Kimber meets that requirement, however I am generally not a Kimber fan. My father owns several Kimbers and they have all been reliable, so I guess my bias is unwarranted and based on Internet hype.

All of this to say - if I was putting my money down today, I'm getting the Springfield. I sound like a flip-flopper
