    Needing advice regarding...

    Greetings:

I have been "eyeballing" the Ed Brown Special Forces & Kobra Carry 1911's for a few years. I currently have 2 x 1911's:

    SA Trp (Armory Kote) No-Rail
    SA MC Operator

I am thinking about selling the 1911's above to get one of the Ed Brown's at state. The primary use will be HD & Target.

    My questions:

    1. Is it worth it?

    2. Will I increase my reliability with the EB?

(I'm leaning towards the SF Model)

    Thank you,

Get an 80% kit, cut it oversize & stone until the slide fits perfect! You can build it better if you know what you're doing.

I probably wouldn't sell the SA's unless I really hated them. I like to keep a nice range rotation with my 1911s. Are Browns worth it? Absolutely! I shoot my SF .45 better than any of my pistols. I always look forward to pulling that one out of the safe. My KC shoots every bit as nice. I was also very fortunate to pick up a 5" SF in 9mm and learned right away to use 124g minimum ammo for consistent ejection. 115g was reliable, but ejecting at 2-3 o'clock and beaning my son shooting next to me the first day out with it.
As for reliability, mine have been flawless with the exception of 185g Winchester "Win-clean" ammo which none of my 1911's liked. I'd stay away from it.

I didn't have the exact 1911s jumping to the one you want, but when I went from my Sig 1911 to my Baer PII, it was something else I'd say going from a nice production to a semi custom 1911 is worth the jump. You'll appreciate the small things.

This is not the time to sell guns. Keep anything you have that you don't actively dislike and allocate funds towards new purchases by any means necessary.

in my opinion you already have a few excellent 1911's. If you're so inclined consider saving up for a personalized custom built to your specifications by a famed smith.

My Bruce Gray custom has provided me so much pleasure, i truly treasure it.

                    1. Yes
                    2. Not necessarily. My MC Op has been more reliable than a Wilson and Guncrafter I used to own. Others have had better luck, but just know in advance it can be hit or miss.

I would sell the TRP, send the MC to the custom shop to be upgraded how I wanted it, and save the remainder as a down payment on a semi-custom. I'd go Les Baer before stepping to a Wilson.

While I don't condone getting rid of any 1911s do what you need to do to get the EBSF. I would consider a Dan Wesson in lieu of the Kobra Carry since it's half the price and nearly as good IMO.....plus they are in better supply then they were a couple of years ago. I have both and extremely pleased with them.

I'm apt to keep what I have and save for the Browns, NH's & WC's; however I realized with present day modern machinery there is consistency in 1911's even down to the "micron" which cannot be done with handfitting.

To clarify my comment above I'm referring to consistency with Production & Semi-Custom 1911's.

                            1. That's up to you to decide.

                            2. Probably not, however there is an increase in quality from the two you mentioned. Custom 1911s are handbuilt and should come to you flawless or almost flawless.

BTW - I sold everything that I don't shoot to fund an HRT, and I am waiting. But I am sure its more than worth it...

HRT? Awesome. I'm on a waiting list for a SA Pro.
