As far as getting it off, any kind of penetrating oil should get it to release without damaging the bluing. WD40, Kroil, etc. Take off the grips before you drench it, just in case. The finish may or may not be affected by the foam. You won't know for sure till you get it off.
If you get it off before you buy, the price will go up.

If the price is low enough, I'd gamble on it. Expect the reblue to cost you $300-500 through the custom shop though if it comes to that.

So I went ahead and purchased it, decent deal/ couldn't pass. I tried getting some of it off; it comes off but leaves a mark on the bluing. I also called colt to see about refinishing and it'll cost $475.00 to have it re-done. I guess my next question is what is this thing worth after refinishing?

If it only leaves a mark in the bluing, but the bluing is still there, then do not opt for refinishing. Ask them to re-polish it. This is what I did, it was half the price, and did nothing to the original finish other than bring the shine back like it should be.

When I had to clean disintegrated foam off my S&W (which was kept in a Haliburton case BTW) I had good luck using Goof-off. Powerful stuff - use oustide!

if flitz didn't get it off you're most likely not going to be able to "clean" it.

I'd ignore what everyone said about its value degrading, it's still a colt that isn't made anymore, just make sure colt puts all the proof marks back and nobody will know anything about a refinish

Not sure about Colt, but when you reblue a S&W they stamp the grip frame.

And experts seem to know when stuff's been redone.....

I just called Colt regarding the price and time to reblue a Python and was told $475, but no orders are being taken until after September. Colt is too backed up with orders from 2015. The time to get it back is ideally 6 months but now they are running over a year. I've heard a lot of opinions regarding the value of a refinished Colt and although the most serious collector will likely pass on any refinished Colt Python that does not mean the value bottoms out. The price you can get is whatever someone is willing to pay. The vast majority of Python owners are not collectors and many new owners simply want a super clean Python so a refinish may be what they are looking for. I would just be up front and let them know that the work was done. Any limited run Python is going to fetch a premium and even refinished it will bring in most of that premium because of the limited number available.

Goof-Off = Toluene. Use outside and stand up-wind. A very bad idea to smoke while using it.
