Anyone is having problems with Nighthawks in 9mm? I mostly tried my duty ammo in it. 9 and 10 round quality magazines. Tried NATO ball. Slide would lock back in the middle of magazine. What is brake in time for Nighthawks? Appreciate any help.

Welcome to 9mm 1911's.
NHC has no break-in time. They are built properly, and thus should run from the factory. You have an issue.
Mags and springs are common issues with the 9mm guns. Talk to NHC next week and they should have a recommendation. Sometimes you need to get the right combination of spring weights for your gun and ammo choices, then once you are dialed in it'll be fine.
I had a full size Wilson CQB in 9mm, and I had to change out the recoil spring for a lighter weight spring. It ran great after that. Wilson Combat was able to get me squared away without sending them the gun. -
This does not sound like a break in issue.
The slide stop is not properly fit for the ammo type being used.
If you can find a semi wadcutter type of bullet, it may work.
What is happening is that the nose of the bullet is hitting the slide stop causing the slide stop being pushed up.
Take out the slide stop and you may be able to see where the bullet is hitting it.Comment

I'll also mention that you picked the right size 1911 for a 9mm build.
9mm runs more reliably in a Commander. Lower weight slide, easier to set up springs for proper dwell time than in a full size. I was told that by a Wilson Combat gunsmith (after my full size 9mm was delivered, lol)Comment

I have two Nighthawks, both in 45 ACP. One of them hated most ammo brands. I started shooting Federal American Eagle and it gobbles it right up without any issue. I think the American Eagle ammo is more consistent in its size, whereas the other stuff I was shooting had slightly different seating depths, which can throw these tight-fitted guns for quite the loop.Comment

Ate you sure you are not hitting the slide stop while shooting??
I have never had problems with 1911s that were because of the mag or ammo. Of course i do not shoot anything but Nato ammo either.
Kind of strange for a 3k plus custom made 1911 to have this kind of issue. I'd send it to NH to take care of what ever problem.Comment

It is pretty easy to eliminate the hand issue. You can change your hold or shoot it one handed with your weak hand. If it still locks back before the magazine is empty the nose of the bullet is hitting the slide stop during feed.
It could be a magazine issue, or the inside of the slide stop needs to be reprofiled/relieved so the bullet misses it when feeding. When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment

The only problems I have ever had with any 9mm 1911 magazines I have owned were Kimber brand (not sure who makes them for them). I favor Tripp for all my 1911 magazines, but frankly, Wilson, Metalform, etc., etc. all have worked flawlessly in all the 9mm 1911's I have owned. A couple of my 9mm 1911's have been ridden extremely hard and put out wet, mags dropped repeatedly in the dirt each day of use without cleaning, never a problem.Last edited by Bill Steele; 07-04-2016, 11:23 AM.When asked what qualities he most valued in his generals, Napoleon said, "give me lucky ones."Comment
