Hey guys, so I'm looking at getting a new carry pistol and I'm a bit undecided. I'll be wanting to actively carry it, and I've never owned, nor shot a Sig or HK but those are the ones I've held and like. I wanted to get some opinions on which would be the best choice? How hard is each to conceal?

Sig P220 Carry, P229, or Hk45c?

They're all pretty big I think the 220 well have the smallest foot print being single stack. You'll also take a hit in capacity unless you get the extended 10 round mags. They're all pretty big for carry though.Just a libertarian guy in a Leftist Authoritarian state.

All of those have spare mag prices that are shockingly expensive. I pass for that reason.sigpic

It depends on your size and your style. A 140lb skinny 5'6" guy will definitely have less options than a 6'5" 300lb guy.
With the right holster, any gun can be concealed without printing too badly. I'm 6'1" 220lbs and I played around with concealing a P226, and it worked pretty well.
However, it wouldn't be my ideal carry gun, and if I was specifically buying a gun for ccw, I'd buy something much smaller.
If you already have a HD/range gun, and you want to buy a gun specifically for ccw, you'd be better off buying something more compact than those you listed. Shield/XD/etc. are all better ccw options IMO. But if you really have to have one out of the three you listed, and assuming you shoot all three relatively and equally well, the P220 is probably the best fit.Comment

Thanks for the replies so far! I am 6'3" and about 275 so I do have a bit of room to play with. I carry my full size xd9 in arizona, but with a little less **** to give when it comes to printing for obvious reasons. I feel like California is going to be a little more strict on it. I was also looking at a Kimber Ultra carry or some variant but I think I prefer the Sig or HK over that. Would you guys recommend an Alien Gear holster for that Big of a gun, or something else?Comment

The Sig P220 Carry (not the full size) is almost the same size as the P229. The grip is a little larger in the P229 as it is a double stack 9 but the slide is the same size.
I have carried the P229 for more than 2 years. (I am 5'10" 160lbs) As has been said the holster is the secret, but you must also give consideration to the clothing. With inside the waist then the pants need to be a size larger and you must wear a proper belt suitable for supporting the weight of the pistol. With OWB then the shirt is more important as is the holster and the belt. With the correct consideration it is very possible and concealable.
In my case I use a Galco Fletch (OWB) or an Alien Gear (IWB) holsters. I have also started carrying the Sig P227 Carry (same size as the P220 Carry, except double stack .45). The reason for this is that there is a potential for difficulty with the 13 round P229 vs the 10 round P227 as new legislation passes.
My recommendation would be to choose the P229 or the P220 carry depending on your personal preference. I would also recommend not choosing the model with the rail as that adds just a little bit that may be a "hot spot" for IWB. With that recommendation would be a proper belt, a leather one with a buckle as they maintain the size better than Velcro (the Velcro loosens as you are wearing it). And a holster that you prefer. If you go with OWB be very conscious of the physical offset from your waist. For example most of the Kydex holsters sit too far from your waist while the Fletch style sits much closer.
As for shooting them, they are excellent pistols, they are reliable and substantially more accurate than I. Last year I shot more than 7,000 rounds through a P229 and 2,000 through a P226. There was not a single malfunction or issue.
I hope this helps.

Well if you're considering Sigs, you should at least look at the P227 unless you simply don't want a double stack 45.
Also, Glock and M&P both make a 45 unless you know you don't want a striker gun. I own the M&P 45...the full size frame, 4" model. Great gun particularly after I put an Apex flat faced trigger in it.
And honestly, there are no bad choices in the guns you're looking at so it really comes down to personal preference mostly."Kestryll I wanna lick your doughnut."

Ahh, If I was exempt from the Roster, I'd get a Sig P220 Elite Stainless in a heartbeat, no questions asked hah. Well, after a bit of research and opinions, I'm 90% sure I'm going to go with the P220 Carry. I wouldn't mind the double stack, but I do want a little bit of an easier time concealing. I would look at some smaller models, but I've got some big hands, and they just tend not to fit me well, so thats why I'm veering towards something closer to the full-mid size rather than a straight up compact/sub.Comment

If you've settled on the 220, compare the carry and the regular model; there's not a lot of difference between them, really.
I really like my 220. You and I are about the same size, so, frankly, you've got just about anything within reason as an option.Comment

I have the P220 Carry Elite SAO, P229, and have owned & sold 2 x HK45c. I had the P220 Carry on my ccw for about 6 months, and rarely carried it. It was a tad on the heavier side.
My 3 on my ccw are (with % I carry them)
Walther PPQ M2 (80%)
Walther PPS (15%)
Sphinx SDP Compact (5%)
I use the Crossbreed SuperTuck 80% of the time & the Milt Sparks VM2 the other 20% of the time. Gun belts & holsters are the secret.Comment
