I see SP-01 become available from Riflegear in Fountain Valley from time to time. You just need to keep checking, but you can buy it online and pick it up at the store. With that said I would go Glock, either the 19 or 17. You can't go wrong with either.

These are somewhat apples and oranges. Apples = Striker fired polymer Glock 19 and Oranges = Steel hammer fired SA/DA CZ's.

The obvious solution is to try and rent each gun and I suspect that will sort things out pretty quickly for you. To that end, however, I'm sure you can find a Glock 19 to rent pretty easily. The CZ's might be a bit harder. However, if you can't find a CZ specifically, I'm sure you can find a Sig P226, Beretta 92 or similar. This will, at least, give you exposure to the SA/DA platform and it's really, "which platform do you like best," that is the primary question you need to answer.

Note too that there are no bad choices here. The Glock and CZ's are all high quality weapons. The striker platform is a bit simpler than the SA/DA platform but it's nothing that can't be mastered.

Hopeton is the only one who has actually given solid advice. You'd do yourself a solid by listening to him, the rest of these responses have all been personal opinion and bias. Which is all you can really expect in a thread like this, people's personal opinions. You could go with facts, over opinion.

Glock is used more, by police, by competitive shooters, by military. Glock has less moving parts, easier to work on, highly modular, and much simpler/cheaper. Don't take advice from some one who has a "anti Glock" signature, obvious bias is bias. It's like listening to "car guys" who think American cars are the best, and imports are gay or suck. All the facts say otherwise.

One reason cz is up there is because it has a manual safety. I've never owned a handgun so I don't know if a manual safety is needed or not. Only have ARs so I'm used to having a safety, although it may be different for handguns. .. I also saw the cz compact pcr which has a decocker but not sure how that works

It's a mechanism that safely brings the hammer down(de-cocks the gun) without manually having to do it,p buying it back into double action.

I'd try before buying something however, if that's not an option I'd suggest a pre-owned glock 17/19.

I'm not a glock fan by any means (I prefer sig's and 1911's) but if for some reason the glock isn't for you, you can flip it for minimal loss.

I like the idea of a Glock myself, being a 1911 guy moving toward Glock. They're just cheap, simple, reliable, accurate and you can do whatever you want with it lots of stock and aftermarket parts available.

So are XD's and M&P's.... Anf they are usually.cheaper than Glock's with better ergonomics....

Glocks and CZ's are both great pistols. You just have to pick what fits your hand better (CZ) and what size. I like full size pistols, so I just jailed a Glock 34 and before that, a CZ SP-01.

No bad choices with the options you mentioned. No reason to have an external safety... very different than the world of ARs you're used to
