I've noticed that no one cares or wants a 40 cal anymore or is it just me?

Yet another is 40 obsolete thread..see the other threadsWTB 3rd Gen SW also looking for a 22 pistol with 6" bbl or longerComment

I bought 2 guns in .40 recently at a pretty good price because it was a .40 but the same gun in 9mm would have been $500 more. Just invested in more .40 ammo too so I don't see why the lack of interest in this round.
In CA, we can only have 10 round mags so I'd rather use a bullet with greater stopping power. .45 > .40 > 9mmComment

Well because the FBI dumped it for the 9mm ain't that reason enough?I bought 2 guns in .40 recently at a pretty good price because it was a .40 but the same gun in 9mm would have been $500 more. Just invested in more .40 ammo too so I don't see why the lack of interest in this round.

To address the thread title, yes it seems that any firearm in .40 S&W sells for quite a bit less than the same one in 9mm. Many people fail to see that you can get a 9mm barrel or .357 Sig barrel fitted onto your .40 firearm but you can't go from 9 to .40. Then you will have one gun that can shoot 3 calibers.Last edited by Litespeeds; 06-24-2016, 7:11 PM.Comment

That's what I always considered true, but then you have to worry about mags, and small parts that may need to be changed out when you switch the barrels/mags. And honestly, 357sig is a round most people don't even want to fool with.
It's easier just to buy 2 guns, 9mm and 45acp and be done with it. .40 will always be around, but it will continue to become more and more irrelevant, probably like 357sig.Comment

Nobody is "failing to see" that. There's no point in getting a gun in .40 if you're going to shoot 9mm out of it.To address the thread title, yes it seems that any firearm in .40 S&W sells for quite a bit less than the same one in 9mm. I once bought a higher end Tanfoglio Witness in .40 despite wanting a different caliber because it was a good deal and I'd heard you could swap upper parts.
Over the course of a year, no upper parts or barrels in 9mm or .45 or 10mm ever came available on Calguns or Gunbroker. In order to get one, I would have had to pay something like $500 to the factory.
Spend all that effort and money to shoot the caliber you wanted when you could have just bought it in the first place instead of a goofy, overly snappy compromise round like .40? No thanks.Comment

40 is not for me. I prefer 45 ACP, even 38, 357 or 45LC to it. I only know a few of my guy shooting buddies that shoot the 40 cal.
I don't know of any of my gal shooting buddies that care for that caliber, they all say it is too snappy and hard on the wrist. I tend to agree.NRA PATRON LIFE MEMBERComment

.40 S&W is one of my absolute favorite round to shoot... in PCC's.
Don't care for it much in pistols. Guess I'm not alone.
Plus there seem to be a whole bunch of relatively inexpensive police trade-in .40's which have been hitting the market recently.sigpic
