    1911 mirror finis question

Hello guys, just a quick question,
I am thinking about getting a Springfield Armory or Kimber 1911 and sending it to get one of those bright mirror finishes on it. My question is, does it matter what finish i buy the gun it? could i buy it in matte black and still get the desired finish or do i have to buy the Stainless Steel model?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Talk to whatever plater you plan to send to have the work done. I would think a matte gun would take longer to polish up bright and that the costs would be based on the time involved to do the job.

I assume you only want to do the flats?
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

There was a guy trying to sell a Springfield loaded like that, not shure if it sold, but they seem like a hard sell. If you havent bought the gun yet try to find a used one, they seem not to command an updated price.

try this guy, if he can do a black nickel high polish he might be able to do what your looking for.
(side note colt will bright polish one of their stainless steel 1911 through their custom shop, if its a colt and thats what your looking for)

Ford's Custom Plating offers custom gun refinishing services, including Chrome, Nickel, Hot Blue, 24K Gold Plating, and Laser Engraving of your firearm.

i think you need to decide if you want polished stainless or chrome plated. chrome plating goes over regular carbon steel and the refinisher might charge you to strip off the old finish depending if it's a coating or just blued.

depends on where you are located.

Tripp research if you want to send out and spend $$ or...

techplate in anaheim, near anaheim stadium did the hard chrome on my Kimber 1911. It was originally the blued version and i had them mirror polish the flats on the slide and then hard chrome it.

let me see if i can find pics.

Instead of chrome plating, you can buy a stainless steel 1911 and have someone like Customized Creations high polish it.

CC is over at SIGforum for more info.
