    Walther PPK/S

Just took posession of my inheritance from my long-deceased grandfather. Now that i've shown an interest in pistols in the recent months, and bought my first, my father decided it's time to give my something that was meant for me. Walther PPK/S.

Now to fill out an intrafamilar x-fer form. I have some ?'s for the knowledge base here:

    1. There is a serial on the slide, and one on the frame behind the trigger. The one on the frame is 111223S. The one on the slide is 111223. With no "S", same number. Which serial do I put on the x-fer form. S or no S?

    2. How do I fill out the last lines. The "Who from?" and "How obtained?" and does the information really matter. My father has had the firearm for years, but was never registered to him (or anyone AFAIK), it sat in a gunrug since the eighties. He was not the executor of the estate, but now is, since the executer (his brother) is also deceased. Do I put my grandfathers name (last owner) and "inherited" in the 'How?' portion or my dad's name, or... what?

Should I not even bother registering it?

    PM me if need be.

you should put the serial with the S, better to include it all then get in trouble for leaving something out

answered your other thread as well.

        1. The frame is the firearm. Put down what's on the frame.
        2. "who from" = dad. "how obtained" = gift

"who from" = dad, because your grandfather died a long time ago and passed it onto your father, who had possession of it.

"how obtained" = gift, because your dad is giving you the handgun.

Sounds like your dad had possession since the 80s.
Handgun transfers before 1991 did not have to be registered. So, doesn't matter if the handgun was not registered to your dad.

But it is not a gift from my father. It was specified that it was for me by my grandfather. My father is the 'coyote' if you will. If my grandfather was alive and gave it to my dad yesterday to give to me today, would it still be a gift from dad?

I just don't want any trouble. That's why I asked if it really matters at all what you put. Other than "Bought from Johnny Lawless on 21st and Broad".

its a grey area on who you really got if from. Was it in your grandfather's will that you get it? And if so, why didn't you get it when he died? Were you too young? Was your father acting as an executer of the estate for all these years, and he now finally has disbursed all the contents of the estate?

It sounds like it was your father's, and now that you are interested in handguns, he's gonna give it to you. But hwat if you never became interested in handguns, would he have kept it? See, who's was it, your's or your father's.

In this case, it really doesn't matter, but Quiet's suggestion seems to be the cleanest way to do it.

if they were dealt out when your were 11 and your father ended up with the PPK, then it sounds like it was his.

And if he was willing to throw it in the trash, it sounds like it was his. Otherwise, if he threw my property in the trash, I'd be pissed.

And, two thread at hte same time sucks. Can't keep the conversion going in one place. It didn't need to be crossposted in 1 hour. It could have used a more descriptive title and maybe you would have gotten more interest in it.

So do I use "DAD" or his real name?

I would maybe put both down.

                        Aquired from: father's name.

How possesion was obtained: gift from father.

Covers all the bases that way.

I think it would be cleaner if you put that it was obtained from your Dad. As far as how obtained, I just put "family transfer" when I got a gun from my wife. It went through fine.
