GP100 vs SP101

My GP100 4" is a favorite for my wife and daughters. They shoot 357 loads no problem and 38 are like nothing to anybody that shoots it.Comment

6" GP is my nightstand gun.
2 1/4" Sp is my wife's nightstand gun.If you want to know what the Democrats are up to, just listen to what they accuse the Republicans of doing.Comment

I'll make a case for the SP-101
The new adjustable sighted, 4 1/4" bbl totally changes the dynamic of the gun. It is much lighter and more compact than the GP-100 and will make a world of difference if you intend belt, or even conceal, carry.
I got rid of my .357 because I found the 686 platform too heavy for my needs.Comment

If the SP101 was made prior to 2011, this will make it feel very slick:
Mine was made in 1989 (first year) and it works wonders.

The GP100 is a heavier, robust gun that will last several lifetimes. It will also be easier for your wife to shoot with heavier .357 rounds. I have both and enjoy both greatly. The GP100 (4 inch) is my range gun, while I carry the SP101 (3 inch barrel). You really can't go wrong with either.Comment

I recently picked up a 4 inch GP 100 in SS. I considered both version of the sp101 and I'm glad I went with the GP100. Very stout and good shooter, like others said, can't go wrong. Very versatile and built like a tank. I shoot UMC .38s and its been good so far. Very nice gunComment

I picked mine up sometime in the 90s, I don't remember when. It might be time for me to dust her off and give that spring pack a try. Thanks for the tip!

Everyone, thank you for the excellent feedback. Now for one additional question, for a GP100, which is more appealing the SS or blued version? I do not have any SS handguns; all are either polymer or blued (in the case of my existing revolvers).Comment

Since you're going to use it for HD, would you be walking out to the sidewalk in the rain with it? Taking the trash out.Comment
