G19 gen 3 mag release issue

Hey guys,

Let me preface this by saying, I am not new to glocks and have been changing parts and playing with them for years.

Odd thing happened today and I am baffled:

I changed the old extended mag release to a vickers today. Now I am getting almost no tension in the mag release. The mag release will not reset all of the way and the mag can be stripped easily. I changed it back to the other mag release and I am still having the same issue. The mag release spring seems to be floating instead of tight like it usually is... Is there a quick fix to this or does the spring need to be replaced?

Any help would be great!

I doubt the metal stick lost its tension. Try pushing it all the at the way down if possible.

Sounds like the spring isn't sitting correctly in the notch.

I thought so too but it appears to be very loose. I can wiggle it with my finger and it has zero tension..... Appears to need a new spring sadly

I've found the Glock mag catch springs don't like to be bent or levered out of the mag catch notches too many times. I'll now lever the spring out of the notch, then completely pull the spring out with pliers to:
-examine it for straightness
-to keep it out of the way to avoid bending it when putting in a mag catch

I'll then press the spring back into the hole in the frame and lever it back into the slot in the mag catch, trying not to bend it any further than necessary.

MidwayUSA, Brownells, Glockmeister, and GlockParts are all out-of-stock with that spring. I'm wondering if Glock had a bad batch causing a buying run on that part. I know I had such an incident with one of my Glocks.

It's just my suspicion as Glock didn't tell me they had a bad batch. They just replaced my mag catch, spring, and ~8 mags which became damaged from the combination of a bent spring and worn mag catch. This was in my G30Gen4. I also conversed on another forum with another person who had the same problem with his G41.

If the spring is bad, it won't show much of a bend or curve. I thought just repositioning the spring so the bend was in a different direction would at least temporarily cure the problem, but "nope", it didn't work. Only a new spring (and in my case, a new mag catch) could cure my problem.

Springs are sold out because Polymer80 sold a metric crap-ton of 80% Glock frames, and every one of them needs a mag release spring.
