When to change it a barrel?

I've got about 17k give or take a k down my Kart NM barrel that I put in my 1911 about a decade ago. The gun shoots well still but I'm getting it seems more and more wayward shots. I'm not sure if it's me, the ammo or the barrel. What's the usual shot count for a tired barrel?

I have seen single barrels go 50k. Have someone test it in a ransom rest to make sure flyers are you and not the barrel, also chrono the loads to make sure it isnt throwing inconsistent velocity. If the ransom rest and chrono tell you the barrel is good, then it is good.

I had a Kimber go to 56k rounds before changing barrels, it did not need it, I just wanted a Name brand barrel at the time and figured, why not.

Did your scores go south or your groups open significantly? With lead reloads you might have a lead built up in the barrel or the reloads may not be match quality.

The reloads are from a friend who reloads. High quality FMJ. The misses are all over the place. I'd get a good groups here and there but also some groups with a few mostly right and really low. And some I don't know where thy hit.

Give the barrel interior a good cleaning.
Look at the lands. They should have sharp edges. One side will probably be rolled over a bit. The farther it is rolled over the worse the barrel is.
