Assistance with glock mag disassembly

I'm trying to swap followers to the 9mm3 followers. I tried and tried with punches and a "glock" tool I got online and I can't get the damn things apart. Before you have something else to say, I had previous mags I got apart with no issues from my glock 17. These are from a brand new glock 19. Yes of course i watched youtube first. Mags will bot click and stay down like they shoukd exerting syrong pressure to the point where they feel they will break.

Same process as the 17, push in the plate under the floorplate, squeeze the living crap out of the sides, and torque the floorplate forward.
Once you get it moving 1/4" you can release pressure on the sides.

Those tabs in the middle are a pain.

It may be best to get a steel punch, you should be able to get more torque with it. Place the magazine on the edge of a table with the floor plate hanging over the edge of the table. Place the punch in the mag at an angle facing up toward you. try to put the punch in the mag in a way where it hits the front edge of the mag which is on the table and press down. I find that using the table gives you a lot more leverage than trying to hold the darn thing in your hands. There are a few youtube videos that should help you with this. good luck, took me a number of tries with ruined floor plates before I figured it out.

I took a razor blade and trimmed the nubs just to get the dang thing apart. Still locks together just fine.

+1 on using a steel punch to do it.

After trimming the nubs, they come apart and go back together with ease.

I have a small set of c-clamps that I use to squeeze the bottom of the mag with. The c-clamp's flat ends is about 3/8". Squeeze it just enough so the base plate will slide out as you don't want to bend the metal liner. Remove the c-clamp as soon as the base plate is removed. Protect the mag from the c-clamp with a cloth. I use an old t-shirt.

Like a couple other posters have said, use some clamps or vice grips to pinch the sides of the mag near the baseplate. Put a cloth of some sort to protect the mag. Then push the tab town and slide at the same time. Easy peasy.

I appreciate it. So you do not push the pin in the floor plate straight down? It is to be pushed in at an angle? Towards the front of the magazine or the back? That is where I am stuck. I know sounds ridiculous but they won't lock back. Been years since I took one of these apart but it was easy as hell last time

I just use pliers with a towel around the mag so I don't gouge it. Squeeze pressure on the sides and it slides right off.

You only want to squeeze the middle of the magazine though. If you squeeze the whole thing, as you would with a vice, you risk bending the corners of the internal metal frame or even breaking the polymer body. The C-clamps or pliers mentioned above are much better choices.

This is what you need to squeeze, so the tabs on the mag body come out of the slots in the floor plate:



No reason to smash the whole magazine body just to get those little tabs loose.

Ok so update on this one. Like I said the bottom base plates would not budge so I put an excessive amount of force in to get them to move and I broke both of them. One more reason to hate Glocks I suppose
