New member here and I figure I'll make my first post a useful one. Sorry about the delay in posting my experience, but I misplaced my shooting notes and just now found them.
I've been reading Calguns for quite some time so I knew about the ammo sale Homeland was having last fall. Took a chance and ordered 4K rounds of 115gr 9mm. Figured that if Homeland turned out to be a scam my credit card company would take care of me. Of course after placing my order I read about the issues with Homeland ammo and became a little concerned. Strike one.
My order was place at the end of Oct and by early Apr it still had not arrived. I had also not received any shipping or other communication from Homeland. Strike two. At this point I called the company (had emailed them earlier but don't know if they received it). They had my order on file, including using my work as a shipping address, and said they would be shipping soon. Things are starting to look better.
A week and a half later two rather poorly packaged boxes from Homeland were delivered to my home. Fortunately I was off early from work so was able to receive them. Strike three for a botched delivery. One box contained 27 bags of 50 rounds (or so I thought) and the other held 22. Let's see - 47 times 50 equals 2350 rounds. At least I finally received something. And yes, I was really beginning to regret my order.
Off to the range! But first, let's open up the bags and put all the loose rounds into some empty ammo boxes I had laying around. Loaded 400 rounds and made an interesting discovery - there wasn't 50 rounds per bag, not even close. More on this later.
Initially I asked my guns for volunteers but none did, so I drafted the following: S&W Sigma with approximately 1000 rounds through it, an FMK with around 400 rounds, an XD with maybe 2 or 3K rounds, and a Browning Hi-Power with around 500 rounds shot. I was concerned about squibs so was planning on shooting the cheaper, easier to replace plastic stuff first. Decided that if one of the plastic guns blew up then I would only sob rather than cry hysterically if a more expensive gun went boomy. I planned on shooting the Browning if no serious problems were encountered with the other three. All of these guns have performed solidly with various other ammo brands either new or remanufactured so any problems encountered would be due to Homeland ammo.
First up the FMK. Shot 70 rounds and had three FTF, including two in a row. I ejected the rounds to examine them and then reloaded them again. All three fired the second time around.
Next was the Sigma for an even hundred rounds. One FTF but this round would not fire a second time in the Sigma. It did, however, work in the FMK.
Ran 140 rounds through the XD and had one FTF that lit off the second time through. Also the last round fired stove piped.
Shot the balance of the 400 in the Browning with no problems.
I didn't concern myself with accuracy since I was concentrating on functionality. The ammo seemed OK, and seemed to generate less smoke than say Freedom Munitions.
Five FTF and one stove pipe out of 400 rounds is not good. But on balance they did all eventually fire and there were no squibs. And that little matter of round count per bag, well, turns out there were 100 rounds per bag. I was shipped 4700 rounds so I'm not going to overly whine about the defective rounds.
I did call Homeland to report my experience and the rep stated that the company would stand behind their product so there is some recourse with their ammo. Would I order from them again? Possibly if further range reports show a favorable trend. My order could have been better, but it also could have been a whole lot worse.
