    Question on approved list guns

I am looking to buy a 5" SA XD45 that is bitone (stainless slide on black frame) whose model # is XD9623SP06. I cannot find this model listed on the DOJ site. Does that mean the gun cannot be shipped to Calif.? It is, in all other ways, identical to the all black model I have. TIA.

Yes, it cannot be. If it is not on the list, it cannot be done...yet.

I have heard that a change is coming

It must have just dropped off the list recently, as I bought one new in late Nov.

I just checked the list and it never dropped off and or never was on the list to begin with.

Per Springfield's site the Bi-tone is XD9623. But it's not on the CA list. Here is the kicker the list says XD9624 which is not on Springfields website. I would call the DOJ and see if they made a listing error and put a 4 on the end instead of a 3.

AT'sGCSRT8 what model number doe's your box say and what number did your FFL submit when they DROSed it? You may have got a gun not on the list.

I called my FFL and asked that he check his online list, the one he uses when doing the paperwork and whatever online stuff is required. I plan on talking to him tomorrow, but dfens post gets me thinking the DOJ has their data wrong. I hope so, 'cause I'm ready to hit the 'Buy Now!' button. Thanks for this and any other info you all can offer.

The model number on the box is XD9623SP06. The model number on my DROS is XD9622, which I just checked SA's website and is the OD green. Maybe I did get one off the list. That is interesting as I bought it new from a dealer here in Cali.

Since the bi-tone version is not on the list, you could always get the standard 5" model and have it sent out to a company that I like called Robar. They are out of Arizona and do wonderful work of making the slide that nice stainless bi-tone look. Looks just as good as the factory if not better. They can also have your mags match the slide!. I had this work done to my H&K USP Compact 45ACP and it looks great!

umm, not to sound paranoid, but I'd reword that slightly cause some might read that to say you bought an off-listed handgun illegally.

Let's assume then that it is not on the list, and therefore my FFL will not take it, even if the seller will ship to Calif. Now, just out of curiosity, why would this particular model NOT be on the approved list? Does the DOJ have a problem with bitone guns, or does that stainless slide make it somehow more evil? I know, I know, this is Calif. and the rules need not make sense. Just wondering.

Every variation of the same gun has to be on the approved list. Stainless steel, two tone, blue ect. Dumb list!

Does the list apply to used guns too? Say you wanted to buy a used gun from a friend but it was not on the list. Can you legally buy and transfer the handgun?

the roster applies to all handguns, new or used, with limited exemptions.

a PPT transfer from your friend in which both of you are CA residents and go to the dealer to tdo the PPT is one of the exemptions to the Roster. Cosignment sales are also exempt.

What if the seller is not a Ca resident?

If the seller is not a CA resident, then the PPT exemption does not apply. It would have to be a normal transfer through a CA FFL and would need to be on the ROster.

If it was your out-of-state parent, grandparent, child, or grandchild transfering it to you, it would be an intrafamily transfer, which is Roster exempt, but as a non-CA resident, they would still need to go through a CA FFL
