    Gsg

Thinking about the Gsg in 22 l.r. Pistol.
Anyone have some remarks about them???

Looking at the short barrel but comments about the long barrel will help me decide?.

Just for shooting at paper from 10 to 25 yards.

    Thanks

My dad has one in the government size. It likes hotter 22, it would hang on my Winchester 333 bulk box. Old Blazer, mini-mags, superX, anything around the 1200fps range seems to run solid.

Standard velocity rounds usually have enough oomph to eject spent brass, but not enough to fully cycle the slide. The slide doesn't get far enough back to strip off a new round.

I bought some decent wood grips for him, which look and feel a lot better than the chunky plastic grip panels that come on the gun.

We only shoot steel with it, so I can't comment on group size. However hitting our 10" and 12" gongs at 25 yards are no sweat. Trigger out of the box is very good as well. The highlighter green sights that come on the gun work great for us. It's also great for new shooters. He let my aunt (his sister) try it, and she loved it too

      Love my GSG-922.
Eats everything. Bulk, Norma tac, Geco/RWS pistol, CCi/Aguila Standard velocity.
      For upgrades, I recommend NicTaylor00 ( 007nathan on Ebay)

Cool, thanks for the vendor tip

Could be my dad's gun just needs more rounds through it for the bulk stuff to cycle better.

I was drooling over the CW parts for a while, specifically the flat mainspring housing

          Hey OP,

I've owned one for about 4'ish years, and have probably put about 10,000 rounds through it.

Runs well with most HV ammo, but I get maybe 3 or 4 failures per brick I shoot.

I'd agree that the slide feels a little cheap, honestly, I thought it was gonna break or crack after a few thousand rounds, but it's still going strong.

With that said, if I could do it again I probably would've gone for a Ruger Mark III, with the metal frame.

You adjust elevation by choosing one of three different front sights. I couldn't get the POA/POI I wanted in the choices and put an adjustable rear sight on the gun. A fair amount of fitting (on the sight, NOT the slide) to get it to go.

The material of the gun - Zamak gives it heft which helps approximate the weight of a full sized 1911 but it's got a cheap feel to it. I half expect it to break (the slide) when I take it out. Its big selling point is that it does an very good job of feeling like a 1911. The only thing that would be better would be to put a .22 upper on a true 1911 frame.

With Ruger off the roster I'd look at the Buckmark line. But if your looking for an inexpensive emulation of the 1911, the full sized GSG is best choice.

My Shooting Pal has the full size and loves it
Few FFE at first--but that seems to have gone away

I had a full size GSG 1911-22 the year it came out and it was a fun plinker. I polished the rails which shot standard velocity ammo almost 100% as long as I don't shoot rapidly. Anything high velocity shot flawlessly.

Aftermarket parts are readily available and perhaps even gotten better now.
